Looking extremely forward to the Derek and Susan show next Friday in Jacksonville! Anybody here planning on attending? P'raps a pre-show hook-up could be a thang? Grin

Boy, the date snuck up on me. I will be there along with my girlfriend of many a moon. Don't know the area much beyond the pizza joint next door, but if you suggest a place within walking distance, I will try to make it there for a beer or three.

Hitting Sunshine Blues Fest as well.

Peace.

I wish that I was able. TTB in Jacksonville on 1-16 and then a 3 hour drive to Savannah to see Gregg on 1-17 would be a nice two day trip.

I'm looking forward to some hometown reviews. The show should be a barn burner!

What a show. I just can't understand why some folks hate on this group as they are the best thing going live right now. I think it's extraordinary that such a large band has the maturity to still bring things down to a whisper.

High points for me: Susan and Tim did an acoustic "Shelter" from Ray Lamontagne, the alap in front of "Midnight in Harlem" was especially nice, "Keep on Growing," "Idle Wind," the outro of "The Storm," and Susan just killed it on Booby Bland's "I Pity the Fool." Susan has gotten better as well in her own Jimmie Vaughanish/Johnny Watsonish way. She uncorked a couple nice solos. Derek was...well, Derek. He's ridiculous.

Great hometown crowd as well. Unfortunately, I was in the weak bladder section, which also included two people who couldn't clap in time, and one shrieker (sigh).

Tired as hell but off to see them again at Sunshine Blues.

Peace.

Great, amazing, fantastic show! Maybe a tad brief? (opening act - whole shebang over by 10:23).

For the whiners about lack of guitar soloing - Derek (and Susan) played an extraordinary amount of extended solos. I forget (or just don't know) the final piece that they played before the ending (before the encore) - but they played in a 5 man band format (drums X2 + bass + Derek and Susan- horns, vocalists and Kofi off stage (Kofi back on at end)). Derek just ripped for about 5 minutes on end. More electric guitar soloing than you'd hear at a Led Zepplin gig! Sick!

Blooby I looked around for you ... until I remembered that I don't know what you look like. 😉

Wish I was going south for the two outdoor fest's this weekend. No Dickey is a slight disappointment - bu I'll miss the opportunity to see Los Lobos! Y'all enjoy!
