People will want to know, if Gregg's final resting place will be at Rose Hill.

Firstly, I think that his immediate family, wife, children, should have a private ceremony just for themselves. It could be one day's visitation.

Next, the band members who knew, loved and lived with him over the years, need their time with him and to say goodbye individually and musically.

After that, there could be a celebration of life for fans, maybe at a venue like the Fox in Atlanta, or an open air festival somewhere. Gregg is iconic and a lot of people need to deal with his passing.

I think given the problems that have occurred at Rose Hill in protecting Duane and Berry's resting places, if his wife wants him to go to someplace private, where she could visit and grieve him, that would be totally appropriate and people should be supportive of that. His wife will have the hardest grieving of anyone. She also has the right NOT to reveal where his final resting place is.

I don't believe Gregg will be interred at Rose Hill.

Why did his manager say he will be?. these area Greggs wishes.

I do not know why his manager said that, and I don't know if he did. That said, there isn't room in the plot for another grave.

This article states he will be buried there.

"He will be buried at Rose Hill cemetery in Macon, Georgia, though a funeral date has not yet been set, Lehman said. Two other founding members of the Allman Brothers -- guitarist Duane Allman and bassist Berry Oakley -- are also buried at Rose Hill Cemetery."

"Lehman told the Associated Press that Gregg Allman would be buried alongside his brother.

However, Dave Caplice, who maintains the lot on behalf of Oakley’s sister, said Gregg Allman will not be buried on that lot.

He said Allman said in an interview last year that he had bought 10 lots at Rose Hill and those may be adjacent to the lot where Duane Allman and Oakley are buried, but he will not be buried in the same lot."

It is a shame Gregg can not be buried next to his brother. But that is not possible..

If he had been able to purchase the other lot on the same terrace he could be along side his brother, but there would be the walkway between them.

If it is the family's wishes don't discount the concept that Duane's body could be moved to another plot he shared with Gregg.

Anything is possible.

I will be absolutely shocked if Gregg isn't buried at Rose Hill. Anywhere else just wouldn't make sense and I don't even know why it would be considered.

If Gregg's remains were cremated, they could easily be put next to Duane.

Yes. my Aunt was buried in our family plot where there might not have been room for but she wished to be buried next to my sister and was cremated and her wishes were honored.

Very true, and a '"pillow" stone at the base would be nice, but it appears that it won't be necessary to do that.

“Gregory’s wishes were to be laid to rest next to his brother. About a year or so ago, a good Samaritan in Macon reached out and said she owned the 10 adjoining plots next to Duane and Berry and offered to sell them at the cost she paid. Gregg was touched by that, so we acquired the 10 slots,” said Michael Lehman, Allman’s manager.

Not sure why, or how, Dave Caplice would comment on where Gregg is going to be buried?
He's a caretaker, not a decision maker. I just found it odd, and a little disturbing, that someone
obviously not "in the know" would comment.

They should open the fence up and put Gregg right next to his Brothers. They can't leave his grave marker out in the open, and another fenced-in area would seem ....redundant. Not to mention Gregg's estate is probably the only one with money that can continue to provide maintenance for the sites.

I'm redacting my thoughts out of sensitivity. I have a different outlook on this than many others. My concerns would be his safety and peace. I think it is horrible that Duane and Berry's graves had to be put behind a fence due to the goings on at the cemetery. I'll stop there.

There is an unoccupied terrace to the right of the stairs descending down to Duane and Berry's gravesite. Although purely speculative, I'm thinking maybe that is where Gregg might be laid to rest and probably not in the fenced area w/ D & B. So technically he would be next to his brother, just not in the same plot...But I guess we'll find out next week. If this is the case, I'd wager a fence would have to be erected around that plot also for obvious reasons.

I was just thinking how cool it would be if the original 6 band members were to be laid to rest there side by side eventually (No rush Dickey & Jai, hope you two stick around a long while!!).

Butch's final resting place was never announced so it could be possible he might wind up there next to Gregg, but time will tell. Remember, when Duane passed, he wasn't interred there until after B.O. passed in '72. What a great tribute to the ABB, Macon and their legacy if it wound up this way. Undoubtedly, they would probably be the first band ever laid to rest together.
Again, no hurry, just a cool thought to ponder.

With Gregg being there, I wouldn't doubt that an eventual re-landscape plan comes to be ..including just one larger fence, new walkways, steps, etc.

Ronnie Van Zant's remains were moved to another cemetery. Not sure who paid for it but I would think his wife Judy. It is now on a Van Zant family plot.

Picture on facebook shows exactly that, the grave has been dug on the other side of the steps from Duane & Berry.

1) Dave did not make a decision. There just isn't enough room in that grave site for another grave.

2) Why not another fence around the other side of the walkway? Match them together, joined in the middle (would require the city/county permission of closing off the walkway and getting rid of the stairs) with matching stairs/railings.
Secondary reason is that water runoff has undercut the wall where Gregg is to be buried and eventually the retaining wall will fall. (If you ever go there, look at the block wall holding up the terrace beside Carnation Valley.)
Also, with the family knowing of the past problems with fans trying to take a "keepsake" or carve their names into the markers or mess up the stones trying improperly to make rubbings, and the instance where someone tried to dig up Duane, they will more than likely want a fence built like the other one.

3) Dave is more "in the know" of the family's wishes about Rose Hill than just about any one who posts here. I would give you a bet that he has known for a while where Gregg's resting place would be. It's just that when we talk of Rose Hill, we're generally speaking of the grave site, not the entire cemetery.

Hey Renee, good to see you post again, even if it's under these circumstances.
PS: remind the other Vayloretts that I got the chipper shredder fixed, and i got lots of woods to hide the evidence in.
