Am looking for advice (from like-minded music lovers) about what media streaming players might suit us best.

Our viewing needs are simple, mostly met by our Comcast cable subscription.

Except for when it comes to music.

Sure, we have plenty of dvds, but that is not the same as some of the rare and/or unavailable for sale music videos & concerts we enjoy viewing online.

As much as we enjoy watching our kind of music videos on youtube (in our home office on computer) it sure would be nice to occasionally surf and watch youtube music videos in the comfort of our lr/tv room.

We really don't have the time or need for things like netflex, or gaming, or such.

I was thinking of heading over the bridge to Best Buy soon, would like to have an idea what I should be looking for, as this technology is new to me.

From what I gather online, they all seem extremely reasonable.

We have a flat screen tv, not a "smart" tv, but it does have USB & HDMI

Thanks in advance for recommendations/advice what to look for. Ca

For just streaming, Google Chromecast is pretty easy. Plug it into an HDMI, and run a setup on your PC/laptop/tablet/phone. It's only $35 and you can find it on sale once in a while. Only limitations are you have to view youtube or whatever you want to stream thru the Chrome browser - but that's what I use for everything anyway. Other limitation is that any Windows devices need to be Windows 7 or higher - it won't work with Vista. Well, and you have to have wireless internet........ Grin

Some Blu-ray players are "smart," meaning you can stream Youtubes through them. I finally upgraded to this a yr or so ago and got a decent refurbished Blu-ray for $42 on ebay. Again assuming you have wireless internet.

thanks everyone! I do have wifi and windows 8, so I just have to motivate myself over the bridge to Best Buy Smile

Im encouraged ! I was thinking I would have to connect the 2 with a cable or 2, if even that would work Smile

I love all the new technology Smile never fails to amaze me

You can't beat Roku for ease of use and simplicity. It's worth the few extra dollars over some of the other options. The Roku2 and Roku3 also have a headphone jack on the remote control so you can watch (or rather listen) in silence for everyone else. Very easy to add new "channels" on the web-site when you log-in, and then voila it is on your TV screen within seconds or minutes. Youtube is one channel. Also has netflix, amazon prime, hulu, PBS, etc etc.

Check out reviews/comparisons on Cnet and elsewhere to get an idea how Roku compares to Chrome and others.
