Just curious what others may think of this choice. Don has a very solid list of people he has produced and seems to have a good reputation. I am NOT an expert when it comes to production, and its just my preferance and opinion, but I tend to like things more of a "raw/organic" feel to it. I liked what T Bone did with Gregg, I know some others did not. I guess we will have to wait and see how his new one will be. Has there been any word of a release date?

If he gets Gregg to record a record, ANY record at all, I'd say that's a pretty big "win" right there.

Personally I'd like to hear Gregg record with his current band and filled out with the players from All My Friends. Cuts like Dr John's "Let This Bd A Lesson To Ya" from that show and "Feel So Bad" fromThe Gregg Allman Tour album are my favorite type of Gregg solo sound.

Seems like Was could pull it off. Hope he does. Won't hold my breath though.

Good point. I have no issue with T Bone but I have been somewhat tired of him producing soooo many things lately. Having said that, he does seem to be more of a better fit for someone like Gregg than Don Was.

No issues here with T-Bone's producing other than the fact that you know it's a T-Bone produced record. I like his sound. But a good producer, at least to me, is rather transparent. He pushes the artist in the right direction, tells them something sucks when it does. Gets their sound on record.

What I'm looking forward to hear in Gregg's new record is the Muscle Shoals touch. I've never been there but there's no denying that there's something in the water. Magic comes from that area.

It doesn't matter to me who produces Gregg's album, I just want to hear some original music from him.

I really enjoyed Low Country Blues, I loved the whole concept because no one makes raw blues albums like that. Gregg's voice fit perfectly. It's kind of like the inverse of what Electric Mud was at the time.

This album, especially since Gregg will be using his touring band on the album, should be closer to his live shows and the Gregg we all know, than the past few albums. I can't imagine Don Was tinkering much with what makes Gregg, Gregg, especially considering all of the all-star tribute shows he has done which are pretty straight forward.

Guys like T-Bone and Don Was are perfect for Gregg as they pretty much do all the work. They will find material, do the arrangements, find musicians if needed and work with the engineers to get the sound. Gregg has little to do which works perfectly for him. Wouldn't hold on to the dream of original material too tight. Gregg loved the T-Bone experience as it removed the heavy lifting which can be liberating for an artist like Gregg.

He wanted the ABB to go the T-Bone route and that is not Warren or Derek's style. Pretty much ending any hope of an ABB from that point on. I have always been on the fence as it would have been interesting. But I can see how from the guitar angle, it wouldn't represent what the band was at that point. We will never know.

Gregg just can't write the tunes and maybe he has better things to do and accepts that. No worries as there are millions of songs out there. Would prefer to hear Gregg (or anyone) sing a great song written by someone else than an average songs by him.

Don Was knows exactly what a Gregg Allman fan wants to hear and knows how to put it together. I think the album will be one of Gregg's best and even better than LCB.

Great perspective and I agree with everything that James said. And if you want to consider Don Was' experience as a producer, this list is somewhat mind-boggling, and it's only a partial list. Wikipedia was the source of this. Was has not only produced but played on many other records. Here's a partial list of artists he's produced:

Bonnie Raitt (3 records), Michael McDonald, Iggy Pop, Bob Dylan, Elton John, Bob Seger, Ringo Starr, Roy Orbison, The Rolling Stones (4 records), Delbert McClinton, Jackson Browne, David Crosby, Joe Cocker, Willie Nelson, Stone Temple Pilots, John Mayer.

As you can see, QUITE an array of artists, and quite an array of genres as well.

Not great for my taste which is more down and dirty, but Gregg is probably going for a sweet soul sound and Was is good for that. Depends on the material if it is a good fit or not, but it doesn't get me excited.

To me Gregg doing a Muscle Shoals type soul album is the direction that best suits his voice at this time. I look forward to it. However, I wouldn't expect more than one or two new original songs.

Oh, I can hear it. Add "Mess up a good thing"....and some new hammond chops from Gregg; we might be on to something....

I am pretty sure there are going to be 2 new original songs and his version of Scott's song Love like Kerosene. I just wish
Gregg would release the studio version of the song Delta Blue, which he played a couple times in 2005 with the ABB. I see
on Gregg's website you can pre-order the album even though it will be awhile before it's released, thought that was weird.

That is one UGLY album cover. Not that covers matter as much as they used to, but I hope that is not the final. Looks like they spent about 2 seconds on it.

Hopefully it is just a placeholder until the album cover is actually finished.

There will be an original. But it will be 45+ years old. Gregg always does it so he gets a royalty.

Vegas Odds on Gregg Adding A Classic

Which will it be -

Odds of 1 of the Big 3 appearing - 95%

Whipping Post - Slight chance but used two albums ago.

Midnight Rider - Even odds as he can always milk that one.

Dreams - Odds on favorite as it is the least used of the 3.

Maybe a medley of all 3?

How I wish that he doesn't do this again. Hopefully Was can explain that he has already written that one before.

I actually like it when Gregg reinterprets one of his own songs from the Allmans. "Dreams" and "Midnight Rider" from Tour and Laid Back are two of my favorite cuts of his. He didn't do it on Low Country Blues, and I thought I read that the Gilded Splinters-version of "Whipping Post" was arranged by Johnny Sandlin. It turned out to be the best cut from Searching For Simplicity, which suffered from a dearth of quality new material. I'd take an album full of covers than a single "Silence Ain't Golden Anymore".

If he does include an oldy, I'd say "Ain't Wastin' Time No More" is the most likely since his keyboard player has really added to that one since the live album from Macon was recorded.
