Thoughts as it winds down

I posted this in the guest book, but I know some folks don't go both places, so I wanted to share these thoughts...
Ok, tonight is the last night. The front page says it's 8 hours and 56 minutes until the next show...the last time (i'm presuming) we'll see that particular message. The road has gone on and on and on….and forever is looking like its coming real close. I’ve been listening to the shows on this Beacon run and I’ve seen moments that have moved me like I haven’t been moved in years. The insane Rockin Horse>Trouble No More, or last nights unhinged version of Whipping Post are almost scary in their intensity.
Such a rush of mixed feelings. Joy because the music is still so vital. Joy because I have been blessed with over 40 years of this band. Don’t Keep Me Wanderin’, Blue Sky, IMOER, those songs and performances have been friends who have carried me through my darkest and happiest days. Thanks guys.
Sadness-well it will be over won’t it? Sadness because while this place won’t go away, I know it will be different and some of us will go away. There are those folks who I’ve communicated with and followed their stories over the last 13 or so years who have been inspirations to me-folks like Bird72 who for years was the voice of reason and encouragement to folks with HepC. What will be the latest Bluedad/Big Dave on Bass story, or dig between the Les Paul and Fender folks? I think about folks I used to see on here all the time but have gone the way of the wind.
Then there are folks who aren’t with us any more-at least not in body. I wish Bobo could be here to hear some of the amazing music the band is putting out in this run. I feel like I desperately need Brother Buppalo’s perspective as this thing winds down. I think about Tattoo Neil, Red Dog, Joe Dan, all our friends who have passed, struggled with serious illness and loss of loved ones, divorces and marriages. It’s a helluva community and its been a privilege to be a part of it.
All because, as Buppalo would put it, Duane Allman’s band drew us together.
