Thou shalt Follow Derek's Commandments

Thought you'd get a kick out of it this Guitar world story I did in 2004:
Derek Trucks' 10 Commandements of Jam..

Good stuff.. Some of it is applicable beyond jams and music like #10. You should have pride in what your doing and you should want to do it right and to the best of your abilities. Its always fun to read an interview with Derek. You can clearly see his wisdom doesn't end when he puts down the guitar.

Derek Trucks for President

That article changed my life.
I bought my 1st copy of AFE in 73 and it quickly became my favorite album of all time (still is). I saw the band in 74 and 75, and again in the 90s but lost interest after that.
I picked up that issue of GW because of the cover story on Trey. After reading the article about Derek, I thought I had to check this guy out. I went to the archive, downloaded The Orange Peel show (Jan 04) and was blown away by his playing. I got some recordings of that lineup of the ABB, and my passion for the band was rekindled. My wife saw a video I was watching, was blown away by Derek's playing and said that we HAD to see those guys.
that entire chain of events started with that interview.
thanks

Very cool, stormyrider.
For someone in their mid-20s, Derek's advice, much like his playing, was wise beyond his years.

Sometimes I am given to the thought that Derek is a musical Buddha, both in thought and action.

Alan, thank you for reposting these words of wisdom! And if Clapton is (was?) God, then surely Derek must be the Buddha!

thanks for sharing!
he is, without a doubt, so wise & intelligent... what an amayzen soul! I've long referred to him as the Pastor & he fills that role perfectly!

Thanks-really a remarkable musician and person.

Glad you all liked it. I forgot about it and found in my archives. More to come from there.
That article changed my life.
Stormyrider - wow. Thanks for sharing. So cool to hear stories about how these stories impacted people.

Well Carlos Santana described him as "the anointed one". Other musicians are inspired by him, he ain't a rogue, but he's an enlightened soul, no doubt about it.
