This is The End

It is hard to believe that this is it tonight. What must the band be feeling as they prepare to walk on stage for the very last time as The Allman Brothers Band? I know I am feeling a mixture of sadness, gratitude, awe and joy at all the amazing and powerful music these wonderful musicians, past and present, have brought into our lives. Tonight will be a very special celebration, a powerfully emotional evening. I get chills when I think of the beginning, Duane blocking the doorway after that first epic jam and declaring that anyone not agreeing to join his band would have to fight their way out. Who could have imagined that was the birth of a 45-year trajectory of triumph, loss, resurrection, brotherhood, drama, and, most importantly, always the music.
Thank you, Allman Brothers Band.
Tonight is finally the One Way Out. Duane would approve.

I'd guess the bands feelings differ by person. I imagine for Warren and Derek - who by all accounts have been looking to leave for a few years - it's bittersweet. For Gregg Butch and Jaimoe a chapter closes after 45 years. To my knowledge Butch is the only one without a musical project of his own on the horizon.

It's been a great run for this band in all of its different versions. I hope that this show tonight is a fitting end. I can only imagine how difficult putting the final set list together would be.
I'll miss out on checking the set list here as I will be at the Chris Robinson Brotherhood show tonight.

CR is a lot more of a class act than people and I'd like he'll do some sort of tribute to them, especially being as good of friends as he is with Derek at this point.

How many years till "Mule" does a NYE show called "ABB"?

Somebody's got to ask. If Derek and Warren were not going back with their own bands, would ABB still be retiring? You know they would not, therefore, they should not retire because this is just a loss of two great musicians who have been the mainstay since Dickey's enforced exodus.
I'll even go one step further, to go where no man dares to tread. If Derek was not with Susan, he would not even be going out on his own, his own band was not successful enough to support him for the rest of his life It was only with the merger of musicians from her band and his, that he was recognized by so many people for his talent. I do not deny his talent at all.
So really it comes down to Susan's success that ultimately is leading to the break up of ABB.
There is nothing wrong with him wanting to be with her and their band, but why should ABB break up just because he is leaving, and also Warren? Warren is one of the finest guitarists there is, like Jack Pearson, but it seems to me, there are others who are also highly talented, Eric Krasno is an example. Fine, Eric is not available.
I'm gonna really push the envelope, if Dickey and Andy Aledort came into a new ABB, I think that could be the sound they need, going back to original feeling Gregg wants. Andy's got it, he can deliver, he plays well with Dickey.
Okay, them other issues? Might take some negotiations on the level of world peace negotiations, but is it possible?
You seem to be bouncing all over the place with these theories. Not sure where you come up with stuff.
Your words re: Derek - "his own band was not successful enough to support him for the rest of his life. My question - How do you know this? Have you seen his band's contracts, know how much his take was, know what he was making annually from his band, etc?
Your words - "So really it comes down to Susan's success that ultimately is leading to the break up of ABB." My question - How many dots did it take you to come to this conclusion? There is no more proof in this than the man in the moon?
Your point - "if Dickey and Andy Aledort came into a new ABB, I think that could be the sound they need, going back to original feeling Gregg wants." My question - How do you know that's the original feeling Gregg wants? Has he ever indicated this? Just my guess is that the feeling Gregg wants is that which is produced by The Gregg Allman Band, but I don't know this for fact. I think Andy is a really nice & technically advanced guitar player, but the chance of Gregg forming a new ABB with Andy & of all people, Dickey is quite a reach. I'm just guessing in this lifetime it will never happen.

Andy and Dickey could bring the original energy back to the band. They both have that, and they bring it to Dickey's current band when they do ABB songs. Danny Toler had it also, others who have came and guested with the band over many years, brought their love of the original music plus their own interpretations, but even if Buddy Guy joined ABB, it wouldn't have that ABB energy, it would be smokin' hot, but it would not be the energy.
Dickey is my favorite guitarist of all time and the reason that I started playing guitar. But, if Dickey was brought back into the band, the music would suffer. With his current chops it would be borderline embarrassing following Warren and Derek. To anyone who has heard Dickey's playing in recent years, it is very apparent that he can't play like he used to.

Don't need to see the contracts, look at the venues, seat capacities and ticket prices.
Susan wanted to continue with the mega band she formed with Derek, thus Derek's presence was needed elsewhere from ABB. She has every right to want that, it just necessitates he has to leave ABB for that to occur. Listen to the songs on different nights, you will know.

Gregg's always wanted the music with the feeling of the original band, you can hear it on the songs, you can feel that energy when that is there. He always does a good show with his band, but it is not the energy of original ABB even with him leading it. Too many pieces missing.
And I don't think Butch, Jaimoe and Gregg should hang it up, just because two guitarists are leaving. Derek has always brought his own sound to the band, Warren gets it on every level, he would be hard to replace, but I think the band should go on and try out other players.
We all get to believe what we want to believe or would like to believe. Unless you have ties to the band, then too many theories, assumptions, and conclusions without direct knowledge.

Absolutely not.
It's o v e r.

Wow. You hate Yoko too, dontcha?

Don't even bother. Gina is ill, and her reality is not the same as everybody else's. She should be getting treatment. And I'm not saying that because of her opinions on the band, although those are also kind of out-there.

Two things that I just can't ignore:
- i booked the dTb twice. this was back in 2005 and 2006. Considering their trajectory, let's just say that none of the bands members would be going hungry. they would lead very successful lives.
- to say that susan tedeschi had even the slightest responsibility for breaking up the ABB is the silliest thing I have ever heard.
this is a reflective time period for the band and for fans. can't we keep it positive for at least a few day post mortem?

Bingo! Winner! Thanks for the post!

Why not hold open tryouts for the 2 guitar slots? Only allow members of ABB tribute bands to audition. It will be like that move "Rock Star." We can call it "Aging Rock Stars."

Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,
