The Playing of Matt Schofield

Who likes? Who don't like? I have got a real nice chance next Friday to get out and see Schofield, I don't know alot, I know he's a brilliant guitarist, but dog gone it, his music just never seems to jump at all, just one dragging pace?? Sadly much like my writing......Peace......joe

I agree that song writing is not his forte ... however he is such a great guitarist that I would always go to see him if I had the opportunity ... his shows are not dynamic but they are top quality laid back tunes that you just need to sit back, relax and enjoy ...

I used to see him live a lot but not so much now that he is based in Canada, I think.
I don't even know who he is playing with. The original trio with Evan Jenkins (drms) and Johnny Henderson (org) worked best, I think.
He was always fun to see live and, as Colin says, a really classy guitar player.

Matt is one of those guys that I like much better live than on disc. I have seen him a few times now and always a real good show. He is also a real nice guy and it is always a pleasure meeting with him.
Not surprised if he bases in Canada for now as he does very well here. Who wouldn't want to live in Canada? 😉

Fantastic guitar player. Original trio is pretty hard to beat. He's based stateside now in Florida.

Thanks for the thread,
for me M. Schofield is one of the very best on the scene today and possibly the best British blues guitarist since Clapton. He's got, above all, taste in a serious way. Plays a jazzy swingy type blues, throwing in a lot of major 3rds etc. Really clean and soulful. Not original in history but original these days and really putting his own stamp on things. Granted, as with a lot of things these days, we are able to be presented with a really full and much more interesting picture of an artist compared to before. By this I mean given the technology of the internet, youtube etc we are able to see just how well an artist like M. Schofield really can play both live and behind the scenes, not just a production that a record company wants. If I had come to know him only by an album or two it's unlikely I would've had so much appreciation of his tasteful and soulful style I've seen in many of these videos.
He's actually playing just a few hours north of me today near Bologna, Italy and also giving a lesson, unfortunately I can't make it. Hope to see him live soon.

Good player, but prefer Davy knowles over him.

I would ( and have) travel to see him play... very good player & I very much liked the songs on his last studio release. His band seems to rotate a bit but if he has Jordan John on drums go for sure.. that cat can play!
