I love Jane's Addiction, and they were wildly influential. I think their body of work is very small, but that didn't stop the Sex Pistols or Nirvana from getting in.

What I've always liked about Jane's Addiction is there aren't a lot of bands out there that sound like Jane's Addiction. A lot of really big bands come out and you immediately get a bunch of pretenders, but Jane's Addiction has such a unique sound. And Perry Farrell has been such a huge figure in music ever since, I'm sure they will get in.

But seriously, tell me about Steppenwolf. I know they were an early heavy rock influence going into he 1970s, but has their catalog stood the test of time other than those 2 songs? I'd say Canned Heat or the Guess Who made a bigger mark.

Yes, Born To Be Wild and Magic Carpet Ride were their biggest hits. But mostly because I'm 61 years old, I can tell you that they got significant airplay for quite a few other tunes............they were NOT a "two hit wonder" as you are trying to claim. Try this: Rock Me, Ride With Me, The Pusher, Sookie Sookie, For Ladies Only, Move Over. There are other radio worthy tunes in their catalogue: It's Never Too Late, Hey Lawdy Mama, Who Needs Ya, Snowblind Friend, Tenderness.

They were the first band I can think of (at least one of the first) to incorporate the Hammond B-3 into their sound (they did it before ABB). Not only that, they could PLAY. It's evidenced on Steppenwolf Live, which was a double vinyl LP. It's still available on a single CD. I saw them in the early 70's so I know they were a good live act. And John Kay was a good and charismatic front man and remained so for many years through the band's many incarnations. You could put him out there with any bunch of players and call it Steppenwolf. And he wrote a LOT of good tunes. I saw them at the local County Fair 15 years later..........they were still good! I was actually looking forward to seeing them only two years ago as an opener for Boston but they cancelled due to a contract dispute. Sadly, from what I've heard, John Kay is nearly completely blind now.

Let me add that their "Monster" record was a quite groundbreaking effort as it was one of the early seriously political records in rock and roll with tunes like the title cut and Draft Resistor. And musically it's a very good record.

Steppenwolf is in as far as I am concerned.

Oh, just an FYI: John Kay is not done yet. I just looked at the Steppenwolf website. He's got a solo acoustic show this Sunday 10/23 in Santa Barbara, CA:

As I said earlier there was zero chance that Pearl Jam and Tupac would not get in.

Let me guess - Tupac was an innovator. 😛 Amazing how rap has one of those every year.

Just have a rap year and induct every rapper. They are all innovators so just get it over all at once. Even those kids that wore their pants backwards.

Doobie Brothers
Little Feat
J.Geils Band
Jethro Tull
Moody Blues
ELP
Iron Maiden
Dire Straits

Taj Mahal
Los Lobos
Robert Cray
Warren Zevon
John Hiatt
Blind Faith (hey if the Sex Pistols can get in on one album, so can they)

Also some younger already eligible artists haven't even been nominated yet...

The Black Crowes
Soundgarden
Alice In Chains

Even Bon Jovi hasn't been nominated, and going by their loose criteria, that's hard to believe.

The bad thing is, coming up the artists who will be eligible who actually are HOF worthy is very slim. Starting in the early/mid 90's not too many artists will make the grade.

If you are going to include rappers, and they are, then he belongs in. He was an icon of the genre.

Agree as he is a T-shirt icon. Much like people wear Che Guevara is a T-shirt icon. People wear his image and he was a murderer. But oddly they people wearing his shirt know very little about him and don't even bother to Google the guy on their shirt.

Tupac is an icon. So is Snoop, Ice T, Ice Cube, Ice Tray, M&M, Fify Cent, MC Hammer, Tone Loc, Vanilla Ice and those kids with backwards pants, on and on................although it all has little to do with their music. Pure image. Tupac released more material after he died than when alive. Figure that out?

Every year there will be one of those - the equal to admitting every rock band that ever played. And they tell us that they were all innovators. Amazingly enough without any musical skill or knowledge.

As I said, just admit them all at once. Going to anyway.
