Whenever I want you around
All I gotta do
Is CALL you on the phone
And you'll come running home
Yaeh that's all I gotta do

Laid up here lookin' at my shoes
Stretched out with these hotel blues
I wish you'd only just call me on the phone

And I was standin’ on the side of the road
Rain fallin’ on my shoes
Heading out for the East Coast
Lord knows I’ve paid some dues gettin’ through
Tangled up in blue

If the rain comes they run and hide their heads
They might as well be dead
If the rain comes, if the rain comes

The one who holds you tight
Is different every night,
But in the heat of love, Lord,
You can't recall her name.
Run, gypsy, run,
Roll on down the highway

Billy got so sad, dejected, put on his hat and start to RUN
Runnin' down the street yelling at the top of his lungs
All I want in this life of mine is some good clean fun
All I want in this life and time is some hit and run

They's all bawling 'bout you
Down on the farm
The cows bawl, the pigs bawl
The horses bawl, too
Miss you so much that crying's all we can do

Bought myself a FARM way out in the country
Took to growin' lettuce, milkin' cows and honey
Bought myself a farm
Way out in the country

Lefting and then Righting,
it's not a crime you know.
You gotta tell your story boy,
before it's time to go.
Are you ready for the country
because it's time to go

Playing 30 years with heart and soul
lord we took it further than rock and roll.
We stood together thru thick and thin
yeah we made the best of it all back then.
Then I guess time took it's toll, cut me deep, cut me cold.
Brother against brother, one against the other.
Ahhh it looks like they're here to stay...here come the blues again.

Cold, cold, cold
Cold, cold, cold
Freezing, it was freezing in that hotel
I had no money, my special friend was gone
The TV set was busted so she went along

Cat tell the boy come up to my room and play with my toys
Jill set the bait
She wasn't going to sit around and wait
But this guy gets wise to the lies
And flies out the door
With that easy money

He's the quiet kind
Doesn't need a plan
Can't read his mind at all
He's a secret man, talking 'bout the man
Tell me no secrets, I tell you no lies

There's a man who leads a life of danger
To everyone he meets he stays a stranger
With every move he makes
Another chance he takes
Odds are he won't live to see tomorrow
Secret Agent Man
Secret Agent Man
They've given you a number and taken away your name

I'm a Danger Man from a dangerous city and I lead a very dangerous life
I got a dangerous car, goes dangerous speeds and very hazardous wife
I got 16 or 17 dangerous girlfriends not counting one or two
Look out kid you don't want to get hit I'm dangerous to you
You better look out

You took the kids' car and drove all around town
Tellin' everybody you're gonna put me down,
Lordy, what you doing
Call it what you want, I call it messin' with the kid

In the winter of '65
We were hungry, just barely alive
By May the 10th, Richmond had fell
It's a time I remember, oh so well
The night they drove old Dixie down
And the bells were ringing

The bell has tolled
My baby caught that train and gone
The bell has tolled
My baby done caught that train and gone
It's all my fault
I must have done somebody wrong

You got to help me
I can't do it all by myself
You got to help me, baby
I can't do it all by myself
You know if you don't help me darling
I'll have to find myself somebody else

Now way inside your heart
Do you have a grain of love for me 'cause all I see is decadence
And the end of everything you can bend over backwards
I ain't gonna kiss your ring Somebody

I don't mind stealing bread
From the mouth of decadence
But I can't feed on the powerless
When my cup's already over-filled
But it's on the table.
The fire's cooking.
And they're farming babies
While the slaves are all working.
Blood is on the table.
The mouths are choking
And I'm going hungry
I'm going hungry
I love those three syllable associations!

A child's drawings left there on the table
And a woman's silk lying on the floor
And I would keep them here if I were able
Lock her safe behind this open door

Politicians sit yourselves down there's nothing for you here
Won't you please come to Chicago for a ride
Don't ask Jack to help you 'cause he'll turn the other ear
Won't you please come to Chicago or else join the other side
We can change the world
Rearrange the world
If you believe in justice
If you believe in freedom
Let a man live his own life
Rules and regulations who needs them
Open up the DOOR

One day you'll see her and you'll know what I mean.
Take her or leave her she will still be the same.
She'll not try to buy you with her time.
But nothing's the same, as you will see when she's gone.
It's foreign on this side

Lord my mother she done told me and my
Father done told me
Grandfather told me too
My mother she done told me
And my father done told me
Grandfather told me too
It's a mean old town to live in by yourself

Well, we made all the hot spots, my money flowed like wine
And then that lowdown southern whiskey began to fog my mind
And I don't remember church bells or the money I put down
On the white picket fence and boardwalk of the house at the edge of town

My pappy said, "Son, you're gonna' drive me to drinkin'
If you don't stop drivin' that Hot Rod Lincoln."
Have you heard this story of the Hot Rod Race
When Fords and Lincolns was settin' the pace.
That story is true, I'm here to say
I was drivin' that Model A.
It's got a Lincoln motor and it's really souped up.
That Model A Vitimix makes it look like a pup.
It's got eight cylinders; uses them all.
It's got overdrive, just won't stall.
With a 4-barrel carb and a dual exhaust,
With 4.11 gears you can really get lost.
It's got safety tubes, but I ain't scared.
The brakes are good, tires fair.
Pulled out of San Pedro late one night
The moon and the stars was shinin' bright.
We was drivin' up Grapevine Hill
Passing cars like they was standing still.
All of a sudden in a wink of an eye
A Cadillac sedan passed us by.
I said, "Boys, that's a mark for me!"
By then the taillight was all you could see.
Now the fellas was ribbin' me for bein' behind,
So I thought I'd make the Lincoln unwind.
Took my foot off the gas and man alive,
I shoved it on down into overdrive.
Wound it up to a hundred-and-ten
My speedometer said that I hit top end.
My foot was blue, like lead to the floor.
That's all there is and there ain't no more.
Now the boys all thought I'd lost my sense
And telephone poles looked like a picket fence.
They said, "Slow down! I see spots!
The lines on the road just look like dots."
Took a corner; sideswiped a truck,
Crossed my fingers just for luck.
My fenders was clickin' the guardrail posts.
The guy beside me was white as a ghost.
Smoke was comin' from out of the back
When I started to gain on that Cadillac.
Knew I could catch him, I thought I could pass.
Don't you know by then we'd be low on gas?
We had flames comin' from out of the side.
Feel the tension. Man! What a ride!
I said, "Look out, boys, I've got a license to fly!"
And that Caddy pulled over and let us by.
Now all of a sudden she started to knockin',
And down in the dips she started to rockin'.
I looked in my mirror; a red light was blinkin'
The cops was after my Hot Rod Lincoln!
They arrested me and they put me in jail.
And called my pappy to throw my bail.
And he said, "Son, you're gonna' drive me to drinkin'
If you don't stop drivin' that Hot... Rod... Lincoln!"

As I was motivatin' back in town
I saw a Cadillac sign sayin' 'No Money Down'
So I eased on my brakes and I pulled in the drive
Gunned my motor twice then I walked inside
Dealer came to me said "Trade in you Ford
And I'll put you in a car that'll eat up the road
Just tell me what you want and then sign that line
And I'll have it brought down to you in a hour's time"
I'm gonna get me a car
And I'll be headed on down the road
Then I won't have to worry
About that broken down, ragged Ford
Well Mister I want a yellow convertible four door De Ville
With a Continental spare and a wide chrome wheel
I want power steering and power BRAKES
I want a powerful motor with a jet off-take

And you're a chip off the old block
Why does it come as such a shock
That every road up which you rock
Your daddy already did

Why does love got to be so sad?
