I just got it and am in the early listening phases, but I like it thus far. In a way, it makes me think of the most recent Black Sabbath album "13" in that it is a skillfully crafted album that seems to very consciously echo some signature sounds and moments from the band's past. (I felt the same way when I heard the ABB's "Seven Turns" too).

Some ideas:

- Daltrey sounds GREAT.

- I have never heard so clearly the imprint of Townshend's vocal phrasing on Daltrey's singing. The Who's songs always start as Townshend demos, and a lot of times on this album, I feel like Daltrey is singing to sound like Townshend. It's not a bad thing.

- On some latter day Robert Plant albums, Plant is recorded with the vocals up front like he is whispering in your ear, with no reverb or "distance." The vocals here sound like that too.

- The guitar at times sounds like it was played while plugged directly into the recording board rather than through an amp.

- This album has much more energy than "Endless Wire" did.

- The songs are very wordy!!!

I will be simmering in this one for a while. I don't know that it is a classic, but it sure sounds good. It makes me think a lot of "Who Are You" overall in its vibe.

Gave the new album just a few spins. Not bad.
There's really no bombastic "Who Are You", "Won't Get Fooled Again", etc. type songs.
Daltry sounds pretty good! I always liked his articulate singing. Don't have to look much at a lyric sheet.
To early to tell if it's an album I'll repeatedly go back to?
For quite some time now it's hard for me to listen thru a full album. Everything now is on "shuffle".

With a New Self-Titled Album, the Who Have Made Classic Rock Comfort Food
Although it’s been 13 years since their last LP and more than half a century since they formed, Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey still know who they are.

Looking forward to hearing it. The few tracks they have released sounded good. The last one Endless Wire, I think I played it once and that was it. Did not connect with me.
