"The" Most Epic ABB Song Ever Made ?

I believe that Whipping Post is THE signature song. Statesboro Blues is a cover.
Hard for many here to fathom, but I think Ramblin Man must be given some consideration. This is the bands only top 10 hit and the song that introduced many, many folks to the band and their music. On the heels of the success of Ramblin Man, the ABB became the biggest band in the world for a period of time.
Biggest band in the world? Can't agree that the ABB have ever been that. Bigger than The Stones, The Who, Led Zep on the world stage? In what, 73,74? No, surely not. Anyway, back to topic, Got to be Whippin' Post. as Absnj says, never heard a bad version.

My take is this...having seen them early & more recent years again; Duane was one 'unassuming' guitarist who was,by far,one of the Greats,of all time & definitely 'the greatest' ever slide guitar player (as is Derek now).
The Allman Brothers Band has always been one of the Most..unassuming bands ever also... but possibly the 'most' Innovative, (and innovative each & every time they played) who wrote some of the most Epic songs in the widest range of Genres of music ever. Duane & Berry certainly got the original formula down when they formed this little band in '69 & their legacy carried thru till '14! (For some reason I always considered WP a Berry & Duane composition primarily & I always think of & see Berry all over again every time I watch them play Whippin' Post.)
The Allman Brothers definitely stood Alone as a Band & also stood the test of time for sur, & will probably Never be duplicated again!
Epic Dudes...er, epic Group !

There are quite a few to choose from but right now I will say In Memory of Elizabeth Reed from AFE . They ALL play their a$$es of but Duane just goes off the charts on that one. I reserve the right to change my mind at any time .

Early ABB definitely Whipping Post. But the latter song Nobody Knows is pretty epic as is Back Where it All Begins.

Dreams & Whipping post, I love a lot of the songs mentioned and can argue Rambling Man,
Jessica etc belong but great lyrics and incredible jam lead us to Dreams & Whipping Post.
Yes, Les Brier, Dreams and Whipping Post were all played in one set the 2nd to last night
in Oct, 27th at the Beacon, amazing ending.

I don't keep up with sales or stuff like that. I'm really kind going with the feel at the times (I was teenager during those years). Some of the more "legendary" bands like the Rolling Stones and even the Beatles (broken up at the time) were sort of in a sleep mode. The Who and Led Zepplin weren't touring all that extensively at the time. Meanwhile, the Allman Brother's Band were playing HUGE shows like the Mr Y Sol Festival, Watkins Glen, August Jam (Charlotte, NC) and others.
When Gregg married Cher - that even made them a bit more mainstream. The band garnered a lot of ... curiosity based attention following the back-to-back deaths of Duane and Berry. "Brothers and Sisters" and "Ramblin Man" came in on the coat tails of the success of "Eat a Peach". All of this culminated in a new and huge sudden popularity of the band. I remember them suddenly just being everywhere at the time.
I stick by my idea that they were the biggest act - at least for a while. 😉

As far as the biggest act side topic, the most prevalent sound on the radio around '73 and '74 was Elton John bar none. At least as far as my memory serves me using that measurement.
