The Logistics of Attending a Concert in 2022

@hotlantatim Ryan Adams ... the male Lucinda Williams! If you go to a Ryan Adams show and he doesn't melt down - did you get your money's worth? 😉

Posted by: @rusty@robslob Earlier I used the term, "proprietary practice" - admittedly without knowing exactly what I was talking about.
If TM - and the artists want to maximize their bottom lines by not printing and mailing tickets - or even offering a print-at-home option - it seems to me that they are REQUIRING music fans to PURCHASE proper phones. Suppose that say, grocery stores and pharmacies adopt this model? Will those without smart phones starve and die of their illnesses? They are basically taking a section of society and telling them that they cannot attend shows anymore - unless they buy phones that they don't really need (until the grocers and pharmacists join their ranks).
How long before the merch booths start selling virtual t-shirts? Will they accept imaginary money for payment?
Yeah, I know - whiney old man! Now get the f*#k off my lawn!I
I live in NYC.Believe it or not,you can't get a test done at all the "Free Covid Tests" tents they have set up since the pandemic started without a smart phone.I was told at more than one tent "No smart phone, too bad".I had to go to a CityMD clinic.

Now, we can all get a 4-pack of tests for free through USPS. I somehow got 2 orders.
But I get that requiring a phone for everything is absurd. I don't want to try to do customer service for laptop software on my F***ing phone.

... EXCLUSIONARY practice! That's what I meant to say! In selling tickets only to those who own smart phones - is TM engaging in Exclusionary Practice? Is this even a thing? Oughtta be!

I don't like paperless tickets any more than many of you do but we don't have any other choice if we want to attend concerts that only take digital tix. If you want to go to some concerts that only accept phone tickets you either have to get a phone or go with someone who has one otherwise you get left out.
People without smart phones are the minority now and evidently there are not enough of you that can't attend concerts for it to impact ticket sales so Ticketmaster does not care if you can't buy tickets.
Sucks I agree but you can't stop progress as everything going digital is in progress and the future.

@uponthe2ndfloor: I just read your story about COVID tests in NYC. That is unbelievably horrible. Makes me very sad to hear this.

Starting to learn to use these things. My wife and I are in Nashville to see Jason Isbell at the Ryman tonight. We looked for things to do last night, and saw that the Wallflowers were playing the Country Music Hall of Fame, a small place. We got tickets from StubHub for less than $50 with fees 2 hours before the show. Used Spothero to get parking right across the street for $25.
Weird show - tickets were for 7:30, and the website showed no tickets available. We got there at 7, the place was almost empty. Eventually filled to about 2/3 full. Backup started at 7:30, played 5 or 6 songs. Wallflowers didn't come on until 9:15 - people were getting pissed. Once they started, they were great. Crowd was low energy (very comfy seats). When they played One Headlight the crowd got up and went by the stage. Energy level went up. They played one more song, then came back for a 3 encore set - Tom Petty's The Waiting and American Girl (which wasn't on the setlist - my wife got one). Finished with The Only Difference. Ended up being a great show. We were in a box right next to the stage, slightly above them in the mezzanine. Got some great pictures.
