Yeah big fan for 40 years here. I'd recommend "Hogwash" or "Split" as a good starting point, although I always had a soft spot for the less acclaimed Solid album myself. You can't really go far wrong with any album from the early 70s. Never saw the original band live, bit before my time but saw later incarnations in the 80s,90s.
They started off as a pure blues band and took over backing John Lee Hooker on his European tours in the 60s from John Mayall's band as apparently the 'Hogs had a better feel for Hooker's music.
Probably their best known tune, at least in the UK anyway. Cherry Red.

"Thank Christ For The Bomb" is the one I would recommend. I saw them about 20 times way back when ...... I learned every note ................

Split and Thank Christ for the Bomb are great. Also, you can check out Live at Leeds 1971 (opening for the Stones). I also like the live UK Tour 1976 and their tributes to Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf. They also recorded an album backing up Chicago Blues harpist Billy Boy Arnold, that really kicks.

Oh yes, and the BBC, Radio 1 and John Peel sessions.

These guys were great but never caught on in North America like Savoy Brown did. To my knowledge they only came over once, opening for Humble Pie in 1972. They played dates right up until 2013 but health issues have forced Tony McPhee to retire. There are many solid releases from the 1980s and 1990s, but the 1970s were their heyday.

I saw them at Torquay Town Hall in July 1971 and it was, at that time and probably since, the loudest concert I've ever attended. I still regularly blame it for part of my hearing loss!

Doing some research online to find the exact date it seems there was quite a lively scene at Torquay Town Hall or, as it was then branded, Marquay: in 1970-71, you could have seen Black Sabbath, Free, Taste, Rory Gallagher, Edgar Broughton, Canned Heat, Clapton with Delaney & Bonnie, Barclay James Harvest, Medicine Head, Family, Fleetwood Mac, Atomic Rooster and some geezers called Derek & The Dominos!

The dates all seem to be July - August, so cashing in on the holiday market, like myself.

I wish!!! I was there on vacation when I saw The Groundhogs.

Torquay is a seaside town in Devon on what is fancifully known as the English Riviera! Location for Fawlty Towers too! Outside of the summer season, it's probably a very sleepy town but at least a promoter was bringing in some great bands in the summer back then.

I had heard of them, but never heard them.
Did some digging on youtube and yes they now have one additional fan for sure. Great 70’s vibe, will definitely be on the lookout for some of their albums.

I saw them at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto, 3rd on a bill touring in support of Who Will Save the World - The Mighty Groundhogs, so I have a soft spot for that one. Thought they were great. After a search, looks like it was June 26, 1972 with Humble Pie and Edgar Winter.
