the dead fare thee well chicago box

lots of negativity on dead.net about this box. I just preordered it and looking forward to hearing and seeing these shows for the first time. They are including 3 cd's of intermission music. not too sure how I feel about this as I have not heard it yet. thoughts??

Neal Casal (Ryan Adams, Chris Robinson, solo) was commissioned to do the intermission music. I believe most of it is floating around YouTube. I dig it. He would take a Dead-like vamp and jam on it. Very nice background music.
As for the full release, I enjoyed Chicago II the most, but I know some folks really liked III.
Enjoy.

The intermission music by Neal was great. The show was spectacular for what it was. I've been listening to sb's of the shows since they happened and it sounds great. You will not be disappointed!

The intermission music is coming out on LP & CD on Record Store Day.
Neal Casal was commissioned to compose & record 5+ hours of original music for the intermissions at the Fare Thee Well shows. The music was so great and there was such a positive response that Rhino US decided to work with Neal to release it! There will be a 2LP exclusive RSD/Black Friday offering and a 2CD for all retail on 27 November.

Their way of acknowledging that Santa Clara was effectively rehearsal, imo.
I'm there's plenty of AUD recordings based on the size of the taper section I saw, however!

I wouldn't be surprised if they found retail-worthy recordings of Santa Clara a year or so down the road, once the Chicago set is sold out. My guess is that you could sell a decent amount of those to those in attendance.
That's part of the reason I bit on the big Chicago box-along with some posters and parking lot Ts, it's a nice pimento of my experience at the Chicago shows.
