Wow, thanks for that! Vernon Reid had just posted this on his Twitter:
"This is Duane Betts. Son of a LEGEND, well on his way to being a LEGEND in his own right! Duane LIT UP his versions of Shake For Me & My Only True Friend tonight at the tribute to his soul-uncle namesake Duane."

I average a show a week so I am careful with the use of superlatives but last night was an amazing show. I was on the edge of the stage all night and everyone on stage was excited and motivated. Just a fantastic night of music.

I recognize Herbie Mann's "Push Push" in the jam. The KC Jam might be a jam on "Preach"
Glad you had a nice time and that fans can enjoy these shows. A friend actually got me tickets to a similar show at the Funky Biscuit here in FL next month. I think the shows are a mixed bag, nice to hear all of these tunes played by so many musicians who clearly love the material (and played on stage with Gregg and Jaimoe, etc), but (and maybe it's the tinny iphone recording here) never as tight as they should be.
Two small gripes: I appreciate the intent, but Sharrard's stories have all of the energy of a high school history teacher and it sucks the energy out of the room in between each song. Also, when you have Junior Mack in the house, why let Tash Neal anywhere near the mic? I dig some of his guitar playing, but Tash is tone deaf.
But I get there are a lot of moving parts and it's tough to get so many songs down by so many different musicians. Glad there is still an audience for this music.

I was there and it was a great night of music and good vibes.
Porkchop - not every show is meant to be captured for eternity. I have immense respect for Scott for the ambitiousness he displayed. Most of these songs are NOT in guys' regular repertoire. There's a lot of shedding that goes into pulling this kind of thing off and time is money and people are all over the place, so actual rehearsal is extremely limited. This show was way above average. Right people comboed on the right tunes and a killer house band.

Interesting that you mentioned the Funky Biscuit shows. I wrote yesterday that I have attended a couple of those shows in the past there with Sharrard and was “underwhelmed”. As I wrote, I had a great time last night and a big part of it had to do with the guests last night. Sharrard deserves a lot of the credit as well.
Maybe the Funky Biscuit shows will be different this time around given that each night will have an Allmans album performed and the addition of Jaimoe. If I was down there, I would definitely catch one of those shows. Too bad I won’t be back in Florida until mid-January.

I actually recall your review of last year's Biscuit shows, and being underwhelmed myself by the recordings (though there's always a different energy in person). But everyone I spoke to who went to the NYE Biscuit shows said they were bad. I am excited that Jaimoe will be there (was great to see him at the Ft Lauderdale Wanee last Spring), sounds like they have a little more polish on the material.

I liked the mild info blurbs from Scott, I would've been scratching my head with the Born To Be Wild inclusion. I love musical factoids.
Thanx for the info, It gives me a launching point, I scanned a few discs and nothing registered. I will check both Push, Push, & Preach and label accordingly.
I appreciate everyone's uniqueness in music, I gauge the artists as a whole, musicianship, voice, songwriting, personality. whether they capture my interest, Just the whole package. I love Tash. His singing has improved, He sang great last. Every artist got their own slice of the pie last night and presented us with their individual strengths and weaknesses.

Yeah "Wild" was on Duane Allman Anthology Volume II, always dug that version. "Wild Horses" would have thrown me for a loop had I not been reading about some Muscle Schoals-produced albums earlier this week. I guess I always appreciate when the music just flows, but hard to do when you're changing personnel.

I don't like to rag on musicians, it takes a lot to get up there and make a living, and Tash has his fans and fellow musicians who love to play with him. It's subjective and I admit to my own musical prejudices. Tash's singing definitely sounds better on these videos than he has in the past, which could be really rough.

Some pretty cool stuff here. Thanks Fretsman, you are the man!

Thanx Kevdab, Believe me, it's a joy to be there.

I've known of the Stones/Muscle Shoals connection for a while. I'm a fan of Jim, Luther, & Cody Dickinson. Jim played piano on Wild Horses and other tunes from those sessions. I had a "silly ass me" reality slap a while back. In my own head it was a romantic loving gesture, but in reality it was dopey. Hero to zero, heh heh. When Jim Dickinson got sick they had a benefit Concert for him down south. I figured out how to contribute in a couple ways one of which was to send a couple of my Stones Studio boots from the era and mail them down there to him. I had this sweet image in my head of the old Gent having his day brightened by a few nice rare discs of the studio work they shared. I years later and asked Luther and he set me straight, "Dude my Dad had everything on virtual masters from those sessions", It made perfect sense, but shattered my little heartwarming envisionment, Heh heh, I can be such an ass where my heart is in the right place, but my head ain't seeing no sunshine. I laugh at myself, It keeps me sane in a crazy world.
