The Band Dawes performs a tribute to Warren Zevon and David Letterman...w/ Duane Betts On 2nd Guitar

This is very cool for several reasons.
The band Dawes was musical guest on the April 22, 2015 Late Show broadcast.
This is an after broadcast clip that was just released on the web. Dawes perform a cover of Warren Zevon's classic song Desperados Under The Eaves as a tribute not only to Warren, but also to Dave as this is one of his favorite Zevon songs.
Dave is truly one of us. He is a hardcore music fan who FEELS music when he listens.
Any Warren Zevon fan here just has to hear this. It is a very moving and heartfelt version of one of Zevon's greatest songs.
You can tell Taylor Goldsmith is a Zevon fan as he nails the nuances of this song like someone who obviously has heard it and enjoyed it more than a few times.
David's intro and outro to the performance is touching as well.
And having Duane Betts on 2nd guitar is obviously a treat.
My only regret about this is this is that it was an after broadcast performance. This song should have been on the April 22nd broadcast as it is that good ...
Enjoy every sandwich...

Thanks for this! Duane added some nice touches here.
I'm a gigantic Zevon fan! Before I changed my signature line (to honor a few departed peach heads), it was:
"too old to die young, too young to die now".

Gigantic Warren fan here as well Rusty!....:)
I really miss this guy...:(

Huge Zevon fan, as well. Saw him several times and watched him on Letterman numerous times as well. Thanks for sharing this, didn't see it and think it's great!!

Any more to the story about Duane sitting in?

Thanx for posting, Cool stories by Dave. I DVR'd the show to watch Duane's input and on the broadcast tune it was virtually nil. I was underwhelmed with the tune. This was sweet in more ways than one.

Duane's playing served the song. I don't know if you're familiar with the original version as performed by Warren Zevon or not. It never was a "guitar song". It's not about soaring solos or tricky licks. It's a fairly straight ahead piano ballad. The guitar parts are fills for the most part. Adding more guitar to the tune could have easily turned it into a self-serving wreck.
They selected this tune because as David said, it was a personal favorite and one that he had wanted Warren to do on his last appearance. It is what it is.

It is not really a sit in. He is touring with Dawes has been been for a bit now. I believe he will be out there with them all spring and summer.

I wondered about that, but saw not one mention of him on their website, so thanks for the info.

Cool stories by Dave.
Obvious highlight of the clip, poignant....

That was cool. Thanks for sharing it with us. I thought Duane did a great job on the solo near the end. As was said, this isn't a guitar song. The subtle solo Duane did fit in great, they were very loyal to the original by WZ.
Yep, the world is not the same without him around. With all the crap going on in the world, it would be great to hear his perspective on it.

Just watched Duane with Dawes at Bonnaroo last night.....he blends real nice and they definitely give him some space to solo. Dug it!

Apparently whoever originally posted this has changed the video setting on youtube to "private". I was unable to view it, even after logging into youtube.

Hey Rob. I remember that video was an after broadcast clip that was provided by CBS.
All of the CBS provided content has been pulled from The Net by request of Letterman's Production Company World Wide Pants .
So he may no longer have it either. Or he does have a copy and he is trying to hide the fact.
