On this day (Sept. 9) in 1980: The Allman Brothers Band kicked of a European tour at Manchester's Apollo Theatre in the UK.

Gregg and Dickey's voices both sound real good on this.

love it, thanks for posting

Gorgeous, warts and all.

Great video of an era that is dismissed by most ABB fans.
I will say, Betts is at the top of his game. Dominant, powerful, charismatic and melodic with intensity.
Goldflies really plays off Dickey very well, better than the other ABB bass players. He is the most interactive bass player with Dickey in the ABB.
I am impressed, even though the material itself is not exciting

It always annoyed me when Butch and Gregg in interviews would ignore or criticize the 79-81 Brother's. I was happy to have new material and live shows to attend during that period.

Another often overlooked aspect of this era is what great guitar tones Dickey and Dan were getting. With Dan using the refinished gold top and Dickey playing Goldie, both with Marshalls into JBLs (the classic Dickey set up), the tones were consistently great.

Philipag you are absolutely right. I remember seeing one of the early Enlighten Rogues tour shows in 1979 in Durham, North Carolina and the guitars were hot and the tones were exceptional. Dan Toler was playing the Les Paul Dickey played on the Fillmore East album and gave to Dan and Dickey was playing Goldie.
The few times I saw Great Southern in 1977 and 1978, Dickey was playing Goldie and Toler was playing an old Stratocaster. Apparently Dickey felt motivated to give Toler one of his Les Pauls when Toler became an Allman Brother.

I really like "Mystery Woman". The chord structure is interesting, and they are doing some cool stuff here along with climb up into the solo by Toler. Thought Gregg's vocal was spot on for this song.

I also saw them on that tour. At the Nassau Coliseum - it was my first time seeing the ABB, and my first concert, period! When they came out and hit the opening riff of Don't Want You No More, it hit me like a ton of bricks, the sound was so powerful you could feel it in your bones. IIRC, Dan said they each had 2 or 3 100w Marshall heads into 16 JBL D120 speakers. Incredible sound. As a guitar player, I would just once like to plug into a rig like that, lol.
The video of the show that's on YT from the Capital Theatre in 79 captures it well.

Dan Toler, although not on the same level as Warren, Jack, and Derek, was an awesome player. To me the Enlightened Rogues album and '79 tour, and the two Arista records albums and tours from the early '80s are two different eras.
I saw the band a few times in '79 and thought that the shows were very good. Not the same reaction after seeing them in '80 and '81.
I'd love to see an official release from '79.

I liked the post thank you and also caught two shows in that era. Gregg's voice was so powerful back then.
Duet - Try it one more time just seems to work, recorded version has a nice mix of powerful Gregg and smooth Dickie vocals. Angeline catchy lyrics.

I always liked the Enlightened Rogues album and Dangerous Dan's playing.....so digging it....plus Dickey smokes the slide on "Right To Be Wrong." Sweet!

Lots of unexpected delights. Dangerous Dan and Dickey sounding fine. Always liked Rock Goldflies rumble. He certainly could provide some bottom. Gregg's organ sound really shows up in the mix. Very good performance all around.
