Really loving this first installment. Been listening to it all morning. It's got a little bit of everything.

I kept seeing "Here My Dear" on TTB set lists and thought they were deep-diving Marvin Gaye, which wouldn't have surprised me, but instead it's a sweet Susan tune. The 2nd song reminds me of Brook Benton's "Boll Weevil Song", and that's a good thing - super fun Mike song.

Those wanting to hear the band jam are in for some vintage Derek on "Pasaquan" - shades of dTb and Gabe throws in some Santana-esque keys. It goes to some great places, has some electric Miles vibes.

I watched a little bit of the video, but I think it's best enjoyed as a musical experience. The video feels like a glorified Instagram story and just not essential to the enjoyment of chapter I.

Looks like they took it down after the premiere. Album drops Friday. Glad I spun it like 4 times this morning.

Thanks for posting as I was able to catch this today. REALLY strong material. A step up for TTB.

Love that they got so much writing contribution from the other band members. Mike is always on point but didn't know Gabe and the bassist were active, too.

And that instrumental is tight. Derek doesn't reach for his slide ring once, I'm pretty sure. That's gotta be a first?

@porkchopbob I enjoyed all of it. The first song was nice for Susan's voice. It reminded me of another song of similar tempo.

I watched the video all the way too and the closing credits reminded me of another set of credits and it took me an hour to finally remember. The opening credits to the Good, Bad and Ugly. Especially after the movie title it's one splash on the screen after the other like the TTB credits. Take a look if you are interested.

@robertdee Yeah the director used a lot of the stop motion-collage style animation that Sergio popularized. Nowadays graphics like that are available as presets or filters on a lot of editing/animation software.

@porkchopbob That is interesting! I figured you knew about how that is done. I see TTB everytime they are in my general area. Always enjoy it. This new project may just be the one to put TTB in the upper commercial level. But it's very hard now to have one to sell a million copies. Warren Haynes said in a recent interview we are in an era where artists have to remove a zero. If you usually sell a million copies now expect 100,000. If it's 100,000 you will only sell 10,000 copies. That was shocking to me.

Eli Wallace died in 2014 at 98. I watched an interview when he was 94 and they talked about all the great Broadway plays he was in and several big Hollywood movies with noted actors and directors....but when Eli is out in public, people always whistle the Good, Bad and Ugly theme at him. In 1966 it was just a violent spaghetti western, foreign movie, the critics here panned Eli said but he said today it is considered a classic! One of the best westerns ever made. Eli even titled his autobiography The Good, The Bad and Me. And the music lives on.

First time I saw Derek's band was in the early 90's in a small club in North Carolina. It was amazing how he could play those old blues songs so similar to Duane Allman's style. I can't remember who the other musicians were. It was actually a pool hall near the Greensboro airport. He didn't say much or smile much but the playing was so good.

First time I saw Susan or even heard of her was when she opened for the Allman Brothers in 1999. I was just looking at some pictures. She was playing a blue/green Tele with signatures all over the body.

Derek was in the Allman Brothers then on an SG and Dickey was playing that old 1956 Stratocaster. The ABB and Dickey was tight and smoking. Derek and Dickey had fantastic Blue Sky solos and Dickey really took it home with a long solo on Ramblin' Man. It's hard to understand how it came off the rails just some months later. But apparently it had been building for years. Oh well. Dickey and Gregg did find each other again late in Gregg's life. Take care.

@robertdee I really appreciate your perspective on the DTB, STB plus Derek and Dickey's time in the ABB. I saw the DTB the first time opening for Hot Tuna, the STB, like you, opening for the ABB and Derek's first tour with the ABB. My wife and I got a real charge from Derek, in the wings, watching Susan's set with great admiration and love. I looked at my wife and said Susan's pregnant and she agreed. Well, she was. In the ABB, Derek was hesitant to take off on his own and constantly looked for cues from Dickey. It impressed me as being humble. We've spoken to both Derek and Susan way too many times to count and first and foremost they both came across with no pretense, just people pleased to talk to fans. A lot to be said for that! Back to the first Derek and Dickey show, our seats were in the front row directly in the middle, so emotions were clear as day. There was a huge problem with Mr. Betts and it was very sad to see. He played well, but something was clearly in the air. In summation, I think all of us have been fortunate to see these bands many times and have witnessed generational players and performers.
We listened to the new TTB I am the Moon: Episode 1 Cresent only once but I am only able to say that I want to listen to it and watch it about 100 times more in the near future.

@owencarol First time I saw the ABB was in January of 1970. A friend liked them and had the first album which only had been out a couple months. I heard it a few times and liked it but it wasn't selling well so not many hippies and music fans had it. I did buy a copy in early 1970. I really wasn't that interested in going but he had tickets so I went. Some how, like magic, I was zapped and hooked during Statesboro Blues. Duane Allman's slide playing was so full of cosmic energy. The entire band just floored me ..like getting hooked on a drug. Trying to find ways to see them is all I thought about for years. That first night it became clear Betts and Oakley were just as good as Duane and tapped into what Duane was tapped into. And Gregg and the drummers were supporting this magic in a way that made it better. But I'm sure you know how incredible the original band was.

I didn't know Susan was pregnant in 1999. She wasn't skinny but had a nice figure. Actually I was surprised to learn back then that she and Derek connected. In the early 2000s Derek said being able to play those old songs in the Allman Brothers with Dickey was the highlight of his career so far and he admitted Dickey was coming unhinged at times and three of the originals were in a tense situation when he joined but when Dickey had a good head on his shoulders and really locked in he was incredible. Derek mentioned a Blue Sky solo that " was the damnist thing I ever heard." I thought it was great Derek didn't go negative on Dickey when his uncle was really knocking Dickey hard in the press. I read Warren say back then that Butch was very angry at Dickey and some of it went back to 1970. I hate Butch, a favorite drummer for me, ended up they way he did with the awful financial and tax situation.   That is such a shame. And I'm kinda happy Dickey is worth more money that any of the other Brothers. It made what happened in 2000 a little easier for me. It's hard to feel too depressed over a favorite musician who is voted out of his band when he's worth S40 million dollars. But it still hurt Dickey according to Andy. The Allman Brothers was Dickey's life. And it's certain Dickey's sound and song writing was a huge part of the band's success.

Gregg said Dickey was going to do what Dickey was going to do plain and simple. Even when Duane was alive Dickey, and Butch Trucks too,  were strong personalities. Oakley and Jaimoe were more laid back and easier to be around day after day according to Gregg.

I've chatted with Dickey a few times over the years and he was decent and would answer some questions but he also had a vibe like you were chatting with a member of the Hells Angels if you know what I mean.

Later players such as Derek Trucks, Warren Haynes and Otiel didn't have anything to do with the success of the Allman Brothers Band but they sure protected and supported it's legacy when they almost crashed and burned again in 2000. The peak commercial years for the Allman Brothers was 1971 to about 1975. They sold out shows everywhere and had THREE albums which sold over 1 MILLION COPIES.

I would love to see TTB have a big breakout album and sell like Fillmore East, Eat A Peach and Brothers and Sisters. They have the talent and the sound. And Derek has layered so much musical ideas on top of his initial love for Duane Allman and Elmore James. I read an interview a few years ago and Derek said he doesn't even listen to guitar players now for inspiration. I think he said horn players and all kinds of music styles. Derek Trucks is one of the more accomplished guitar players in the world today. And I'm not trying to slight Warren Haynes either. All the guitar players out there today love Warren.

But I would love it if TTB and Gov't Mule too would become as big as Little Feat, the Black Crows, early Allman Brothers ( of course later ABB while not having big record sales had big crowds especially on the east coast) and have a million selling album and a big shed tour with a full house everywhere.

I love them now. I would just enjoy seeing them enjoy that level of success for a few years at least!! They deserve it I think.

The new video Porkchop posted is the nicest thing I've heard in a long time. It's as good to me as some of those Pink Floyd albums where all the tracks seem to go together.

Well I'll stop. I'm just an old man now retired at 75 with too much free time for my own good. Take care!!

@robertdee Took my first ride with I Am The Moon just now and thoroughly enjoyed it. Beautiful piece of work. Very strong stuff.

The last tune Passaquan put me right where Mt Jam does. Very similar feel. I could imagine the ABB tearing this up as well as TTB tearing up Mt. Jam.

I bought the CD and can't wait to spin it. Looking forward to the next 3 disks too.

@steved I agree. Been listening to the I Am The Moon all evening. Best new music I've heard in years. I imagine none of this would be happening without Derek. Derek is the glue and point man for this outfit.

I still chuckle when I think about Gregg relating in an interview when asked about the first time he heard Derek play....Gregg said it was in Miami, Florida when Derek's band was there playing a little club or bar and Gregg was there with the Allman Brothers recording Enlighten Rouges. The guy stopped Gregg saying " Enlightened Rogues came out in 1979 the same year Derek was born!!" Gregg then said " Oh my well that couldn't be right. I'm trying to make Derek much older than he is. Man I'll have to think about that".

I could be wrong but I think it was 1990 in Miami when the ABB was working on Seven Turns and Derek's band was playing a small room and he was about 11 years old and Butch talked Warren and Gregg to go over and hear Derek play.

agree 100% with steved

More song oriented with tasty slide accents.

I was going to post the same thing about Pasaquan reminding me of MJ.

Seeing them one month from today. Looking forward to it.

@stormyrider  Finally realized which song I Am The Moon reminds me of. The melody line. Knocking on Heaven's Door by Bob Dylan.

@robertdee Please take care as well. I'm 72, retired, but still fairly busy. Plenty of time to listen to music, one of my favorite past times. It's good for my soul!

Listened to the CD for the first time this morning. Excellent. Probably

their strongest material yet. A little too mellow, though. Here's hoping

that the ensuing installments rock things up somewhat. I ADORE the

closing instrumental even if it is just `Mountain Jam' without Donovan's

theme. Bring on the next one!

@darylm You all heard/seen this? I'm liking Derek's non side playing more and more. He isn't Jimi Hendrix, Eddie Van Halen or Steve Vai but personally I can't listen to them everyday anyway but Derek is one I can!

Love where Derek tips his hat to one of our heros DICKEY BETTS!!! You'll notice it.

The new TTB disc is very satisfying indeed. Excellent arrangements, "tight but loose" music that really breathes. I think it's the best recording of Susan's singing that I've heard. The CD is on constant repeat in my car!!

@jimsheridan In my car too. Is it just me or does anyone think Gregg would sound great singing Hear My Dear?

@jszfunk Have you seen them live? It's a good show live. I always see them when they are near by.

This latest release is very nice to my ears. But like you I am just okay with some of their releases. But live they, to me, are among the best bands out there today.
