I wasn't really watching it as I knew it didn't feature artists I follow.

The glimpses I saw of J-Lo and her entourage looked sexy and well-choreographed, which is what I'd expect. I'll assume it was lip-synched, and more of a visual presentation than an actual concert performance.

I’m usually one for the Puppy Bowl during Suoer Bowl Half Time, but I thought Shakira and J-Lo were pretty entertaining.

We watched it at a giant block party in Puerto Rico with a huge screen set up in the middle of a block surrounded by bars and people loved it. I thought it was entertaining. What the big deal? It is meant to be a spectacle. If it had been your favorite band, it would have been lipsynched anyway.

Yes it was a visual spectacle with recorded music. No musicians on the stage and with a latin feel. I like Santana and Spyro Gyra for my latin needs.

Being one who doesn't enjoy Madonna or Lady Gaga in similar presentations and I'm a real band with real musicians guy, I gave it the S word. I know that is harsh and I did it partly as a joke. I do look to see what hair color and crazy outfit Gaga is wearing when she is on TV and liked her duet with Tony Bennett.

I'm not much of a hip hop guy either. And I'm too old to dance and never liked the mixin' and scratching sound. At The Fillmore East is the greatest album and collection of recorded performances to me. Duane and the boys putting the petal to the metal on You Don't Love Me is Music Mecca for me.

Congratulations to Kansas City.

SUCKED!!!

Heh Heh. I'm watching it last night with my wife and I said to her, something along the lines of "I can't believe this is during a FOOTBALL game". I could be mistaken but I think in the first few Super Bowls they had a marching band for the halftime entertainment. I know times have changed of course but really? At least they have had rock bands perform in the past.

Well.....I get why the SB chooses certain acts/performers for the half time show. May not be my cup of tea, cause you ya know, I would have VH do it every year!!

Side note. Check out Zambis post on the DLR Vegas thread on Roths opening night on the KISS tour.

Anyways, they want what's popular and appealing to the numbers for the most part. I get it. Of course we all know of Jennifer Lopez and Shakira..or at least heard of them. But to be honest, probably cause I am getting old and out of the loop, but I did not think these two were really all the relative/significant in the music scene. Maybe 15-20 yrs ago I think they were more "in" then , than now. Maybe they are more of a global attraction, being in Miami wanting to appeal to the Latin community. Who knows.... I need to ask my kids tonight. They are way more "hip" than me!!

Here is a link to the WIKI page of all the SB performers.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Super_Bowl_halftime_shows#2000s

I started to go through them in about the mid 80's on. Till then it was mostly marching bands and Up With People.

LIke I said, not my cup of tea, but hey, you gotta please the masses. Could have been some younger folks in 2010 were thinking the same thing I am today(about last nights performers) ,about The Who.( "What are these fossils doing on stage?" )A band that was well into ther 40th plus year as a group.

I almost never pay attention to the HT show for all the reasons above

I regretted it one year though - I specifically remember I was busy downloading torrents from bt and arranging music files on my HD instead of paying attention to the TV, so I missed Janet Jackson's wardrobe malfunction.

Just because something is popular doesn't make it good....McDonald's food is prime example.

The irony of the programming was all the PC 'girl power' commercials/movie previews here in the Me 2 era, yet the halftime show highlights two middle aged minority women acting like strippers.

Not even close to "my cup 'o tea"......I do find it somewhat disconcerting that this is where "music" is today. That was a dance celebration, not one musician on the stage. Entertainment for some, torture for others....

Oh well.
Cool

Wow, if that's all you saw, it says more about you. One can still respect a woman for being sexy, especially at 40. Latin culture embraces it, and that's what was showcased. Try and understand that rather than resort to slut-shaming. The irony is that you totally missed the point of the "respect women" message.

I'm not sure what everyone was expecting, no one complains that the Olympic Games opening ceremony don't feature a 70 year-old Steven Tyler humping his mic with his leather pants. It's a visual performance for a massive worldwide mass audience playing to a huge stadium crowd, it's not meant to be a rock concert. Just two very talented, incredibly popular women performing a show.

+1 on this...They are entertainers and the music will always be a background for situations like this. It's not the feature. It supports the entertainer. Face it you're not going to see a 20 minute guitar solo at the SB. The dancing was pretty amazing by the some of the background dancers...

No bob, it says more about you. One can be discerning, have standards, and not be judgmental. There is alluring and then there is slutty. If you think crotch grabbing and that display was respectful of women ... I'm at a loss for words. This was an American S.B. not Carnival in Brazil. It was embarrassing and I would not want a similar performance by my wife, daughter, or mother broadcast to the world. Seriously. would you?

Yet, you're being completely judgemental, of women and Latin culture. There are more things in heaven and Earth, Horatio, Than are dreamt of in your philosophy. The performance was harmless, unless you're a puritan. If any woman I know decided to do that, I'd respect their decision because there's nothing wrong with it. Who cares what Peoria thinks?

When people have a moral standard the the aggrieved party always likes to play the judgmental card. If some redneck drops a racial joke at at KKK rally are you going to defend his 'culture'? BS, you would be to first to use your judgment to call him what he is... a ignorant POS. Just because something is cultural doesn't mean it is moral or has a place in polite society.

BTW, I care as much about the opinion of someone in Peoria as someone in NYC. It is for this reason we select our president by electoral college you ignorant snob.

I have seen Gaga in Vegas doing her Piano & Jazz show and it is WORLD CLASS ... she is a serious talent. the band she works with are top notch musicians. Brian Newman handles the trumpet duties. You New Yorkers might be familiar with his work.

Lastly, Jennifer Lopez ... WOW! 😮

No need to call names, dude. The Peoria thing is a common saying, I'm not dismissing the midwest (I'm from WI). The point being that just because someone in Peoria (or anywhere) doesn't understand another culture, or has different standards, doesn't mean they get to judge it if it's not harmful (the KKK is not a "culture", by the way). You, however, are literally judging these women, based on your own definition of morality, for the way they danced. Which, by the way, is not immoral and is totally acceptable (if not celebrated) through out a great majority of the world. And probably in most of Peoria, too.

Was interesting and neat to see the diversity and Latina centered approach, yet at one point someone at the watch-party we were at said something to the effect of this not being anywhere close to family-friendly. The Janet Jackson scenario wasn't either, but was supposedly a malfunction or something. This was a whole different deal, and yes it did include a dance pole and such. I recall some other classic performances such as Prince (in the pouring rain) had dancers and choreographed parts, but the idea of Paul McCartney or Bruce Springsteen appealing to a wide variety of offices seems to be long gone.

The ht show is all entertainment period. In case some of you haven’t noticed it’s been for a long time.Just so happen that my son an amazing brass player was in the band that played all the the music for the show. He spent 3 weeks in Miami doing rehearsals. They will accept nothing short of perfection in order to make it work.So for all you non believers some of the best musicians from around the country are selected to do this gig.Yes it is all prerecorded before hand and than mimed on stage. So hats of to these guys for a job well done.By the way if I made a list of all the musicians that my young son has played with or been in company of on tours it would make your head spin.Right now I’m watching Monday night raw now that’s entertainment.Peace out

That just made the whole thread worth while. LOL - Now that was funny.

Is there some rule that the Halftime Show was supposed to be a concert?

People pay big money so they need ratings. So the have a show complete with music, dancers, lighting and effects. They also use sex to help sell it.

This is new to people?

Both ladies are hot and love to show it. Not a damn thing wrong with that, it is human nature. Just as it is for people to enjoy watching it.

If it bothers you then flip the channel or go make a snack. If you were hoping for some 20 Minute Guitar jam then you will be disappointed every year. Ratings would be terrible and people would be fired. Never going to happen.

I agree with Dino also - Lady Gaga is very talented. I am not a fan but that doesn't change her talents and abilities. Always amazes me that people need to say that something that is not to their liking or tastes is bad.

I am not a fan of carrots. Have always disliked the taste. But that doesn't mean they are bad. Billions of people like them.

If my wife wanted to shake her ass on TV then that would be her choice. It is her right. If I told her that she had to then that is the difference that some are missing.

Some T&A on TV - big deal.
