Summer Concert list

So far I'm going to Steve Miller/ Peter Frampton, and Little Feat. I probably will end up going to the Gov't Mule thing they are doing with the Avett Brothers.

Saw Miller and Frampton last summer, here's a tidbit for you. Great when they did this 15 or 20 minute blues set together and I loved Frampton's entire set as well. Steve Miller churning out his massive array of top 40 hits got boring fairly quickly though to these ears.

Here in the Indy area we have a TON of these "classic rock package tours" coming through this summer. I really have no desire to see much if any. Not that I dislike the artist, it just that I have heard all the radio friendly hits from these people countless times over my life . Kind of bored and burned out with them. The only one that really might interest me would be Paul Rodgers, Ann Wilson and Jeff Beck.
I have heard enough of BC over my life that I could careless if I ever heard them again. Now ,if Paul just did the music of Free, thats a different story. Jeff Beck is not my cup of tea, Ann is a great singer and I am sure would bring it.
Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

The Steve Miller/ Peter Frampton show is for the benefit of the wives. Also the show is on a Friday night at the tent in Boston. Great venue for a summers night out.
I'm hoping for the blues set that you mentioned.

Two of the greatest singers in rock history and one of the all time Guitar Gods.
I think this package is one of the best I have seen. All 3 can still bring it also.
I'm all in!

All in Chicago:
The Struts: I know nothing about them but I heard a couple of their songs and they are playing in a cool small club.
Robert Plant: He's playing a park / outside kind of place. Haven't seen him in over 20 years but my buddy just saw him and says he still has the pipes.
Styx / Joan Jett / Tesla: Seems like an odd lineup. No idea why Tesla would be playing with them but they are by far my favorite "metal" band. I would have paid the price of admission just to see them and they are the opener.
LSD Tour: LUCINDA Williams, STEVE Earle, DWIGHT Yoakam: Get it? Not sure how they can fit all of this into a 2.5 hour show including an opener but this really has me stoked.
Mule: The next week with The Avett Bros. Never seen them and Magpie Salute opening. Taking a shuttle out to the burbs.
Everything in Moderation. Including Moderation.

David Bromberg; John Fogerty w ZZ Top; The Fab Faux; Dickey Betts. Still hoping to nab some Jackson Browne tickets at non scalper prices

Fogerty/ZZ Top, Tab Benoit, Dickey Betts, Sean Chambers, Devon Allman/Duane Betts, Metallica, Ozzy

Tesla is great. I have seen them twice in the last couple years, once as an opener and once as a headliner. As an opening act you really want more - they have alot of goods to deliver.

Seen them a bunch of times. Usually as a package kind of deal with another hard rock band or two. Think I saw them with Skynyrd or Nugent or something. Last time I saw them at a big venue they opened for The Scorpions.
They played Chicago House of Blues a few years ago which was REALLY cool. Small venue. Great acoustics.

I had never seen Frampton until a few years ago when he was on that Gregg tour. I was so glad we got him.
Regarding Steve Miller, see my tagline.
He came through Detroit every summer and me and my buddy always went to see him. Usually had a female as an opener.
He played with Pat Benetar one year and another time Warren and Woody joined him. Always a great show.

David Byrne, Ween, Dead & Co., X, The Violent Femmes, Ray LaMontagne. Might go see Miller/Frampton.
I've seen Steve Miller a bunch and it's ok. Miles Davis called him a "Sorry-ass cat that couldn't play his way out of a paper bag", lol. But Frampton is a true guitar god, having played with Humble Pie, his own full career, and I saw him as Bowie's guitarist for the Glass Spider tour. Check him out playing with The Ventures doing Pipeline on youtube. He is worth the price of admission, especially if you've never seen him before.

Don't laugh.....
Hall and Oates w/Train
Toto

My late Spring/Summer concert lineup so far:
Shaky Knees Fest - 1.5 from my house - have to see Nathaniel Ratlleff & the Nightsweats my favorite newer band. Hope to see David Byrne too.
Jason Isbell & 400 Unit - Playing post Atlanta Braves game show on the field
Robert Plant - won tickets on radio (I knew Hendrix complemented Billy Gibbons on Tonight Show in 1969)
Fogerty/ZZ Top - second pair of tickets I won for same
Tedeschi Trucks/Drive By Truckers/Marcus King Wheels of Soul - at the Fox
Likely - Candler Park Food & Music Fest - about 2.5 miles from house - Gov't Mule, Larkin Poe, others.....

I figured some would, my turn to make the girlfriend smile, I've certainly taken her to more than a few shows featuring "endless guitar solos"...
Time to pay the piper.

Hall and Oates w/ Train? No, not laughing one bit. Hall and Oates are a GREAT vocal band with great tunes and have been for 40 years. And let's not forget, Pat Monahan of Train did a great Queen of Hearts in the Gregg Allman Tribute show. He's a tremendous vocalist. That will be a night of good singin'. Both bands have a good catalog of tunes, especially Hall and Oates.
Toto? Yeah Vince, gotta admit I'm chuckling............

Tell them to play "Hold the Line". Always loved that song when I was a kid.

Laughing at Toto micelf but I agree 100% on Hall & Oates.
Saw them in the very early eighties and was impressed by the band.
They are a lot more than the radio hits.
