Steve Miller jazz - Lincoln Center, NYC

Renowned blues-rock guitarist, singer/songwriter, lifelong jazz fan, and valued Jazz at Lincoln Center Board member, Steve Miller returns to Jazz at Lincoln Center for an in depth look at T-Bone Walker. Considered the founding father of electric blues guitar, Walker changed the way blues was played with his unique and extraordinary solo electric guitar performances. As blues authority Pete Welding has noted, "The blues was different before T-Bone came onto the scene and it hasn’t been the same since…no one has contributed as much as long or as variously to the blues as T-Bone Walker.” Miller, having learned his first chords at age five from his godfather Les Paul, how to play lead guitar from T-Bone Walker at age nine, and then working with the best bluesmen in Chicago – Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Buddy Guy, Paul Butterfield, and James Cotton – has incorporated his affinity for the blues into all of his major recordings, and is now working closely with Jazz at Lincoln Center to explore and expand upon authentic blues styles. Joined by blues all-star Jimmie Vaughan, B-3 organist Mike Flanigin, rising star vocalist Brianna Thomas, pianist Shelly Berg, alto saxophonist/clarinetist Patrick Bartley, tenor saxophonist Craig Handy, baritone saxophonist Lauren Sevian, trumpeter Mike Rodriguez, bassist Yasushi Nakamura, and former Earth Wind & Fire drummer Sonny Emory, Miller has chosen music that takes audiences across the bridge from blues to jazz.
Free pre-concert discussion nightly, 7pm, with Steve Miller, Bernita Walker, and Jimmie Vaughan.

Looking forward to the show on Saturday.
Got my T-Bone Walker "40 Prime Cuts" CD last week and have
been boning up (no pun intended) on his tunes.
My only comment is of the 40 cuts only 5 are slightly longer than 3 minutes.
Hopefully Steve and Jimmie will jam a few out.
Wonder if Steve will do any behind head guitar playing a la T-Bone.
My first time to Lincoln Center.
I guess my ABB tie dye T shirt and jeans are out of the question.
