Can somebody fill me in on the new commercial live releases - I grabbed 2 at the music store recently - Live from Texas/Austin '87 and another with Bonnie Raitt from '85, I picked up the "King's Head" album the day it came out

I've long hoped to find more with Lou Ann Barton or earlier bands, anything acoustic is fun too

Thank you,
C

Those are all in a string of a recent flooding of "grey" market releases. For some reason in the past 4 or 5 months tons of unofficial, unlicensed radio broadcasts have hit the market in Europe. So really these are all bootleg releases.

There have been 3 Allman Brothers, one Dickey Betts and one Warren Haynes that have come out or are coming out in the next month or so.

I am curious as to how the SRV ones sound though.

Honestly I think the best thing going is a '83 show from Philly that came from TanDan
I am a sucker for SRV shows - Live from Texas was OK, I'll listen to the other one tomorrow

Right now I'm stuck on "Man In Motion," just saw the "Ashes and Dust Tour" and I'm wishing I had seen Man in Motion as well

Thanks, I didn't realize there was an import flood

Is that the 10/20/83 show that was included on the Deluxe edition of Texas Flood? If so, then that is a great show.

I don't know, I'm proud to say I have had Texas flood since I was 16 years old. What is Deluxe Edition? Have you ever heard of a recording called "Cowboys and Indians?" SRV has been a staple in my music listening for a long time, I really haven't found a guitar slinger alive who captures what he did (I'm a big Warren/Derek fan). What's the story with the Deluxe Edition of albums I've had for along time anyway? I see the filmore concert is on six discs now and the fact that Tom Dowd did some splicing is frowned upon. If you know of more SRV recordings - please fill me in. I too know about Youtube and don't need that referenced.
Info/old recordings are pretty exciting to me, I don't love the bootleg format though

I've had Texas Flood on cassette and a couple of different versions on CD over the years.

I wouldn't frown upon the Fillmore East deluxe edition at all. I'm glad all of that came out.

I'm all for these deluxe editions if they are putting out something that I don't have and want. Very few people buy actual CD's anymore. (I am one of the rare ones who still does.) The cynical way to look at it is the Deluxe Edition type releases are a way for record labels to re-release/resale an old album to the die hard fans and milk every last penny out of a dying media. They usually tack on bonus tracks or a live concert CD to call it "Deluxe". I actually think with SRV it is called "legacy edition" instead of deluxe.

There are legacy editions of SRV's Texas Flood and Couldn't Stand The Weather. Texas Flood has the 1983 Philly show and Couldn't Stand The Weather has an 84 show from Montreal as the bonus disc.

If you go to Amazon's UK site you can find a ton of SRV concerts that have come out in the last year. The one I linked below has the early show of the Montreal 84 show as opposed to the late show that was in the Legacy edition.

I'm looking forward to the upcoming deluxe editions of the ABB's "Idlewild South", Springsteen's "The River" and "Trace" by Son Volt.

Thanks, don't get me wrong; if I had the $ I'd probably be picking up the deluxe/legacy editions...I still love the music, I'd drop the $ on the Filmore Box, a couple of SRV legacy recordings and the Other Spring 1990 by the Dead - I do wish the SRV bootlegs were of that quality in terms of recording
