Sonny Landreth @The City Winery, NY 10/21/18

One of the finest slide players to bless the God's green earth. Sonny Landreth has his own unique style that sets him apart from others. His finger work behind the slide captures my eyes and ears. I just love his playing. He laid out another great show at the Winery. I hit traffic and crawled across the George. Sonny opened with an acoustic set followed by a short break and then plucked his way through an electric set. I sadly missed most of the acoustic set catching the 1st set closer Creole Angel. Last year he played a full acoustic show which softened the blow, but a missed opportunity to share the room for a few more tunes with one of the greats is truly a missed opportunity. It sounds like a missed 4 or 5 tunes, Booooo. Sayings keep me sane..... "If it's the worst thing to happen this week I had a great week". I grabbed his Live In Lafayette show at last years show and this time I grabbed his Bound By The Blues disc. Beauiful grooves. Check Mr Landreth out, It'll contribute to a great week!

Pretty nasty picker as well, underrated. I shot this clip of Sonny and John up in Oregon last February....

On one of the Mule releases (I want to say it was in New Orleans) Warren introduces him as "One of the greatest slide players in the world". Hard to argue with that. Saw him in a club in Michigan. Grand Rapids I think. I took the promo poster off the wall and had him sign it.
That other guy in the pics is really good too. Both great guys as well.
LOVED the stuff he did with John Hiatt. I wish they had done more together.

There's plenty of great stuff out there!

Saw Hiatt & the Goners @ a BB King package tour stop around 14 years ago they were great.
Very cool, Big fan here, seen this combo about a dozen times over the decades. John has worked with some great musicians, but Sonny makes the show; check out JH's CD "Slow Turning" W/Mr. Landreth

Sounds about the time frame when I saw him. Have seen him in Chicago twice after that. Bigger venues though. That Michigan show was so cool. Just a three piece band. It was like being in one of the local blues bars here in Chicago.

Got to see Sonny perform when he was out my way. Fun show and a great performance. He's one of a kind!
