Every year or so, people who know I like the blues text me about how much i'd like this guy Joe Bonamassa...

I've tried a few times but I just don't like it. The guy is technically amazing, but there's something missing to my ear. Now I can text back and tell em to listen to SIMO.

See my post earlier in this thread about JB....

He's also doing a show in Vienna, VA at a club for TWELVE BUCKS on May 16.

Just bought a ticket and hotel room for a total of $59. With the cost of gas what it is right now, this is a no -brainer.

I can even get my CD signed! Grin

brofan you are lucky. They are playing the Cain's in Tulsa in 2 weeks but it's a Wed night and I just can't make it that far on a weeknight.

And regarding Bonamassa, I read the earlier posts and that's why I brought him up again. It's funny, these people really get offended when I tell them I think Bonamassa sucks.

He appeals to a certain "blues lite" demographic. Most, if not all, of that crowd know nothing and care nothing about the actual origins and history of the blues. Most of those "fans" wouldn't know the difference between Muddy Waters and the Mississippi River. And they certainly don't care.

Joe B. lacks "SOUL". thats what is missing. I don't care how many rare, expensive, vintage guitars he shows off onstage 😛 he can't buy SOUL.

Agreed. And EMOTION.

But he has suits and Muddy Waters wore suits.

Oh, and shades. John Lee Hooker wore those.

And grand gestures. How totally authentic.....

Let's return this thread back to SIMO. 😉 😉 😉

J.D. Simo released a few CDs before the band SIMO was formed. Probably on a small label because they have become rare and expensive. Does anybody own them and if so; what's your opinion about them?

By coincidence i just saw them last night (Spirit of '66 music club in Belgium). First if all i would like to state that i saw "them" because this is a power trio avant le lettre with excellent and powerful drum and bass playing. J.D. himself dislocated one of his knees during their first gig of this European Tour in Paris, France. He played the entire gig while sitting on / leaning against a gear case and the bass player did the same. Fantastic concert with awesome guitarwork. I guess about 100 - 150 people in attendance. Just like on their debut album plenty of catchy and relatively short songs combined with a handful of lengthy "workouts" / jams. My favorite was a very extended "Long May You Sail". Hope the see them again in the summer. Strongly recommend seeing them.
And i agree with pops42 that "He's the "anti" Bonnamassa". Normally a pointless reference but promoters over here kinda try and "sell him" like the new Bonnamassa. I certainly enjoyed last nights show more than the last 2 times i saw mr. Joe "Are my shades, hair and jacket still look fine and dandy" B.

Thanks for the review, Dutch. Man, I would LOVE to see him in a small club in Europe....almost sounds like a fantasy of mine. You're a lucky man!

Saw them in a very small club last year

Awesome, kind of reminded me of the early days of Mule in small clubs. They were that powerfulI've bought both of their albums.
