Sidney Smith braces for his final act

Many of you might recognize the name, Sidney has been photographing the Allmans (and other bands) some decades. Published a book of those photos a while back
The man has lead a fascinated life, here's a recent profile regarding what he's now facing.

very sad news indeed, especially about his son

Some sad stuff ... some serious ups and downs ... but at the same time - what a life!

Yes Sidney passed away at age 71. Said he snuck into Tulane University in November 1970 and a homecoming dance to photograph the Allman Brothers Band and traveled with the band photographing them several times going forward.
RIP!!! Sad news.
Said the students were in formal attire and many were not familiar with the Allman Brothers Band or their mostly blues set and the band received little reaction from the crowd.
So band leader Duane Allman cancelled the remainder of the set and led the band through versions of Wipe Out, Gloria, Louie, Louie and other hits.
That is interesting. I had never heard that before.
They even did a version of Its My Party by Lesley Gore!!

"They even did a version of Its My Party by Lesley Gore!!"
Now THAT is funny!

@robslob I better confess I made up that about It's My Party.
But the article did say Duane led the band on Louie, Louie, Wipe Out, Gloria ( Van Morrison was on vocals) and others.
I'm puzzled by reading the students in formal attire at Tulane were not familiar with the Allman Brothers Band by November 1970. They had been touring relentlessly since May 1969 and performed 305 shows in 1970 alone mainly taking short breaks to record Idlewild South in Macon then later in Miami. But those albums sold poorly and it's plausible the band was under the radar with people even at some campuses.
Ahhhh let's imagine how the band would have handled this. Berry Oakley singing?

Guess Duane sang this one. I can see him doing a high energy version of Van Morrison.

Duane Betts acknowledged the passing of Sidney Smith and posted a picture of himself with Sidney.
Betts said Sidney was always nice to him and his father ( Dickey) said the original Allman Brothers Band liked and trusted him and invited him to travel with the band.
And Sidney and Duane Allman hit it off well.
