Here's a review I just posted at Amazon.com. Dwight is from San Jose, where I live, but has resided in Nashville for maybe 8 years now.

Give this record a spin, and I can tell you what will likely be going through your head: "What is this? A country record? A Soul record? An R&B record?"

Shane Dwight has become very difficult to define............difficult in a very, very positive way.

Through it's many twists and turns, one thing remains consistent listening to This House: A powerful, emotive soul at it's very core.

I've heard Shane live maybe five times now. After catching the fire of his live shows, I knew I had to pick something up. This one was recommended by Shane himself, outside of The Little Fox in Redwood City in October 2015, as the first one to get.

The title cut "This House" starts things off in spooky fashion as Dwight laments a lost lover and cries for how lonely and cold "this house" is with her gone............"it must know you don't live here anymore". What a powerful beginner, the mournful mood augmented by female backup singers as is much of the record. An aching slow blues with a LOT of soul thrown in.

Shane opts to follow that up by getting more funky than he ever does on the remainder of this record with "We Can Do This". His succinct guitar solo shines.

"Fool" follows............."Wanna be your fool...........wantcha be mine too". A tender love song, as the mood winds at every bend. A heartfelt tune that sounds genuine, backup singers again adding evocative touches.

The record continues to twist and turn through an array of genres from there. "Sing For Me (Search For Sierra)" is a mournful dirge full of gospel-tinged pain. Since Dwight is from the South Bay like me, I'm assuming it's for the abducted but never found teen, Sierra Lamar. A beautiful expression of pain over the tragedy of the extinguishment of a young and beautiful life.
"And everything changed
Except our hearts
And our tortured souls
May the light guide you, baby
And revenge be cold"

Dwight crying out in mournful pain to a lost young soul in Sing For Me is quite possibly the most touching expression of grief I've ever heard.

"It's Gonna Be Beautiful" is a ballad full of bright optimism, Bekka Bramlett delivering a Soulful lead vocal turn, the only tune that Shane does not sing lead on.

Then it's straight into Dwight's very, very bluesy San Jose roots with the laid back and greasy "Devil's Noose"........."it's a blue, blue world, filled with temptation and lies". Dwight delivers another concise and funky solo.

On the next three tunes, Dwight continues with more reminder that he never has drifted far away from his hard core blues roots, while never getting stale. He delves into a variety of blues styles, with "Stepping Stone", "Never Before", and "I'm A Bad Man". Never Before is a wonderful high energy bluesy romp that will get any dancer out on the floor.

"Losing Ground", along with Sing For Me, is one of the record's strongest tunes, and really the only authentic country sounding song on the record. A beautiful yearning love song that makes me wonder why I'm not hearing this in grocery and department stores, just everywhere, I mean really, it's that good.

"Bad For You" is gritty and foreboding but not really up to the standards this record has set.

"Crazy Today" closes things up as Dwight combines gospel and country with a flourish, a great way to finish this tremendous record. Dwight's vocal call and response with Bramlett really shines on this one.

Dwight's voice is not anything to be taken for granted..........he's got a gritty, soulful vocal instrument and sounds much more authentic than many current country vocalists. Add to that the fact that including the two tunes which he co-wrote with Bramlett, he wrote or co-wrote every song on this record.

This man's talent cannot be denied and I highly recommend this record which came out in 2014. It certainly is not just for country fans. It's for any true music fan.

Cool. Never heard of him before, but sounds right up my (and probably a lot of folks here) alley.

I'll just say, if you like stuff that sounds kinda country, kinda soul, check out Patrick Sweany. He's my favorite artist of the last 7 or 8 years.

Best albums to start?

C'mon C'mere

Every Hour is a Dollar Gone

That Old Southern Drag
