Samantha Fish is one of my favorite blues artists. Her style is a cross between Stevie Ray Vaughan and R.L. Burnside- two of my other all-time faves! She can also really belt out the classic tunes and her band is a blues power trio in the tradition of SRV and Double Trouble, Cream, Band of Gypsys and early Mule. Here is a video of her playing "Black Wind Howlin'" off her last album.

I saw her here in Bham last month and was most pleasantly surprised. For whatever reason I'm never been particularly fond of female guitarists - I can say without question she is the best and the most tasteful/soulful I've ever seen.

Devon Allman likes to jam with Samantha. Check out their version of "Black Cat Bone", an old Albert Collins song:

Howlin' Wolf's "Goin Down Slow" with RSB. Devon really tears it up with Samantha!:

Likewise her cover of The Stones' "Dead Flowers."

Mike Zito is who she is really close with. Which has led to jamming & recording with RSB and members of.

Saw her live this friday night in Belgium (Hookrock Blues Festival) and she went over really really well. Liked her concert a lot. Very diverse in her guitar playing. Song wise but also because she easily switched from electric slide guitar to electric to accoustic and to cigar box style guitar. Her upcoming CD is produced by and has contributions by Luther Dickinson and it shows. I knew from this topic that her cover choices have a wide range so mid show i did a few "please play War Pigs" requests. When she came out for the encore she launched into
a full version of the Stones's "Sympathy For The Devil" which i thought was a very nice alternative but when that song ended she launched into a full version of "War Pigs" as well. Unbelievable that so many people in attendance know the lyrics to that great song. What a fantastic 15+ minutes encore. Catch her live!

DutchFan, thank you for the review of Samantha's recent show. I'm especially glad to hear that she's working with Luther, he's one of my favorite guitar players. Now I'm REALLY looking forward to her next album! I'm also hoping that her band and the North Mississippi All-Stars will go on tour together this fall and next year, and make it back to the West Coast. That would be a perfect double-bill for lots of wild jamming between the two bands!

Samantha's new album is called Wild Heart and it is being released on July 10th. Here's a little promo tease off the new CD called "Road Runner":

Here's the tune live:
