I thought there was a thread around here somewhere that talked about their setlist for this tour, can't find it.

Anyone go to a show yet? Deep tracks on that setlist ?

There are three variants of the setlist. They are five shows in and I've heard either all of or some of both (Periscope ROCKS! :D)

Deep tracks? Try deepest ever.

What would you like to know? Grin

Here is Setlist A:
Set 1:
The Anarchist
Clockwork Angels
Headlong Flight (with Drumbastica mini drum solo)
Far Cry
The Main Monkey Business
One Little Victory
Animate
Roll The Bones (with celebrity rappers video)
Distant Early Warning
Subdivisions

Intermission (R40 drum kit replaced with throwback replica kit of Neil's 70s black and chrome Slingerland kit, with chrome orchestral bells behind him)

Set 2:
Tom Sawyer
Red Barchetta
The Spirit of Radio
Jacob's Ladder
Cygnus X-1 Book Two: Hemispheres - Prelude
Cygnus X-1 Book One - The Voyage: Part 1(Instrumental)
Drum Solo
Cygnus X-1 Book One - The Voyage: Part 3 (Instrumental)
Closer To The Heart
Xanadu (full song, with double neck guitars)
2112 Overture>The Temples of Syrinx>Presentation>Grand Finale

Encore:
Lakeside Park
Anthem
What You're Doing
Working Man (Garden Road riff at the end)

Setlist B swaps out Clockwork Angels for The Wreckers, One Little Victory for How It Is, Red Barchetta for The Camera Eye, Distant Early Warning for Between the Wheels

Setlist C swaps out Red Barchetta for YYZ and and adds Natural Science

Note that the setlist is in exact reverse chronological order. The stage begins with the backdrop and setup as the Clockwork Angels tour, and as the night goes along and the songs go back in time, the stage changes to reflect what the stage looked like on that tour, at the end of the night the stage looks like a high school gym.

My brother and I are going to the Atlanta show next Tuesday, so I appreciate the info. Thanks! Smile

As somebody who isn't as big a fan of their later stuff, the first set doesn't do a lot for me, especially since I already saw the Clockwork Angels stuff on the last tour.

But that second set is WOW! Full versions of Cygnus X-1 AND 2112? Yes please! I would prefer YYZ over Red Barchetta or The Camera Eye in that slot, but that is just nitpicking. I love pretty much all the Moving Pictures material and was lucky enough to see them perform the whole album a few tours back.

Now I am officially excited!

One very cool thing that Geddy Lee is doing this tour...a tribute to the bass guitar. He's been collecting many vintage models over the past few years and on this tour he's brought, well, all of them. Grin

From the Tour Book:

"All About That Bass."

Vintage basses ... custom colour basses ... weird-looking basses ... basses and more basses ... that's my theme for this tour!

They are fascinating and beautiful to look at (IMHO), and the evolution of how they are made and how their sound has developed through the years is very compelling to me.

Okay . . . yes, I know - I can be a little obsessive, but I have never collected anything that was more appropriate to who I am and what I do and have done with my life.

So here is the rundown...

Somewhere around the rehearsal phase of the Clockwork Angels Tour I managed to acquire a couple of vintage basses. One was a bit of a conceit as it was a Fender Precision Bass from my birth year - 1953 (the electric bass was only invented in 1951) and the other was a rather whimsical and striking 1968 Fender Telecaster Bass covered in Pink Paisley "wallpaper" - to celebrate the Summer of Love.

As I examined these pieces of Bass History I found that I wanted to know more about them - well, everything about them - and more about how the electric bass came into being. Because as a player, in a sense, it was important to the understanding of my own history.

As a collector of many and various things I have come to recognize when you arrive at "the point of no return!" - where your curiosity begins to drive your passion to the extent that you must know everything about the thing that has come into your focus . . . in other words, I was a goner!

So with my esteemed and highly knowledgeable technician John "Skully" McIntosh, we began a two-year journey of searching for vintage basses that told a story to us. I have chosen to share the sound and glory of some of those instruments with you all on this R40 tour. Even though I did not play these exact instruments on the original recordings of these songs, I have tried to choose ones that enhance the music in one way or another. I hope you will enjoy this parade through time, and will dig the experience of hearing these fantastic instruments as much as I will enjoy playing them!

Here they are:
1972 Fender Jazz Bass (Black) My Number One
1972 Fender Jazz Bass (Blonde)
Fender Jazz Bass (Surf Green Custom Shop)
Fender Jazz Bass (Trans Red Custom Shop)
1960 Fender Jazz Bass (Fiesta Red)
1962 Fender Jazz Bass (Sea Foam Green)
1963 Fender Jazz Bass (Black with matching headstock)
1964 Fender Jazz Bass (Lake Placid Blue with matching headstock)
1964 Fender Jazz Bass (Sonic Blue with matching headstock)
1965 Fender Jazz Bass (White)
1966 Fender Jazz Bass (Shoreline Gold with matching headstock)
1966 Fender Jazz Bass (Fiesta Red with matching headstock)
1957 Gibson EB-1 (Walnut)
1964 Gibson Thunderbird IV (Sunburst)
1964 Epiphone Embassy (Cherry)
1967 Gibson Thunderbird II (Polaris White)
1959 Fender Precision Bass (Olympic White) with matching headstock
1965 Fender Precision Bass (Burgundy Mist)
1968 Fender Telecaster Bass (Paisley)
1967 Rickenbacker Model 3261 (FireGlo)
1968 Rickenbacker Model 4001 (BurgundyGlo)
1977 Rickenbacker Model 4001 (JetGlo)
1975 Rickenbacker Model 4080/12 (JetGlo)
1978 Rickenbacker Model 4080/12 (FireGlo)
1961 Hofner Solid Body 2 Pickup (Cherry Red)
1992 Zematis Bass (Black with engraved metal front)

I've been trying to calculate in my head the total net worth of that list in a dollar amount. Can't seem to land on a number. 😛

Rumor has it that he asked the RRHOF to take the 1977 Rickenbacker 4080/12 Jetglo doubleneck off the wall in their display so he could use it for this tour. Cool

Alex Lifeson: "I'm also playing his 1957 Les Paul Goldtop on this tour."

Alex Lifeson Is Suffering From Arthritis
By Jeff Giles May 22, 2015 8:56 AM

It sounds like the members of Rush have piled up so many rock ‘n’ roll war wounds that they may not have a choice whether to stop touring.

Guitarist Alex Lifeson and drummer Neil Peart are finding it particularly tough to play these days. Peart has tendonitis in his arm, hampering his ability to hit the drums pain-free, and Lifeson is suffering from worsening arthritis — which Geddy Lee says could be the main thing that will end up driving the band from the stage.
“For Alex the arthritis is not a small thing. If anything is going to mean we can’t tour any more like we used to, it’s more than likely going to be the arthritis – because that’s something that will directly affect his ability to play,” Lee told Classic Rock. “If I was going out onstage and I couldn’t play the way I want to, or the way I’ve played in the past, there’s no way I’d want to do it. I wouldn’t want to go out there and be a shadow of my former self.”

“I’ve had it for 10 years – and this is the first time I’m really feeling it in my hands and my feet,” admitted Lifeson, although he insists, “It’s a lot harder for Neil. He’s got tendonitis in his arm. To be honest, I don’t know how he gets through playing the way he does, being in that sort of discomfort and pain. But he’s a very stoic guy.”

Lee seems particularly concerned for Lifeson, however. “It kind of hurts me to see him when he’s having a bad day, physically. He’s one of my oldest and dearest friends,” he said. “And when he’s been at rehearsal and he’s not playing his best, it’s not nice to see your friend suffer like that. This thing is in the back of his mind, and he’s afraid of it.”

Lifeson suggests that Peart “probably would have quit years ago if he didn’t feel that he owed something to us,” but stresses that he understands the drummer’s willingness to let go of the musician’s lifestyle — and says that no matter what happens in terms of future tours, he still believes Rush has new music left to offer.
“I’d love to make another record. It’s such a fun experience,” he added. “I’m sure if we start coming up with some stuff, Neil would be right in there – he’d love that.”

I am so excited to hear them play Jacob's Ladder and Lakeside Park that I can hardly stand it. The wait until I get to see them in July is torturous.

I wish I could wait until July, the weather would probably be better in Atlanta. Hell, it couldn't be much worse.

Don't worry, we are still going , and at least we have covered seats and not lawn tickets. But this is not going to be as much fun as I hoped.

I was wrong! Smile The weather cleared at the last minute and the show was absolutely awesome, especially the second set.

Jacob's Ladder and Xanadu were awesome, and to get long versions of Cygnus X-1 and 2112 in the same set was almost too much.....almost Smile

Most likely the last Rush concert I will ever attend, but like the Who show I saw a few weeks ago, you couldn't ask for a better last show.

Show in Tampa was awesome and as advertised.

If I had not read where their stage devolves back in time as the show goes on, not sure it would have made sense just watching it. But since I had read that, it was fun to watch.

Geddy's voice is still prime, sure it has changed since the 70's but he hits the note.

I believe I saw that Goldtop early in the show, don't recall which song.

I must say, their efforts with video are pretty cool. It is obvious that they put a fair amount of time, money, thought and effort into all the video that they show at a concert.

I believe it shows how much they appreciate their fan base, giving back. The whole show's videos were quite entertaining.

This band I believe could go on touring and do quite well, simply due to their fan base. I believe they could do a tour every couple of years - even without new material - and do just fine, just my opinion.

You are much kinder than I am about the videos. I found them unfunny and a waste of time. I said to my brother last night "As makers of funny videos, they are a damn good rock band."

I appreciate the effort that went into them, but I was mildly irritated that I was watching a video when they could have been playing YYZ. Just saying.....

Fantastic show tonight. I really liked the concept of starting with newer material and going backwards. I really liked the first set and think that the material from the later part of there career is as good as the classic stuff. Set two was great with all the classic material.
Besides playing well the light show and multimedia productions where good.

Only bummer of the night was that I was in a section of people who wanted to sit the entire show and didn't like it when I would stand from time to time.
