Cool thread. Interesting in that the initial idea behind the RRHOF was to Honor those who were responsible for getting the whole thing started....We can all agree on who they are/were...

Chuck Berry
Fats Domino
Little Richard
Jerry Lee Lewis
etc.

Now?....Is this being done more from a sense of obligation? ...Or truly following the criteria that got the whole 'ting started?

I agree the whole thing went off the rails. of course you can put bands like black Sabbath, alice cooper, judas priest, motorhead, iron maiden, etc in because they launched different styles of rock n roll but at some point they started ignoring bands like that and starting putting in their favorite groups

On a side note: I think it would be fun to start a ROCK AND ROLL band. Play a bunch of the Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Jerry Lee, Fats et al - up tp about the Beatles. Bunch of 3 minute, 3 chord songs. I think a resurgence of true, real Rock and Roll would be killer!

Is it true Jethro Tull is not in? If this is true I find it to be a big omission from one of my favorite bands of the sixties/seventies.

Jetrhro Tull is among the big omissions.

And Iron Maiden is as well. Never even a nomination yet still fill hockey arenas in the US 39 years after the first album and soccer stadiums internationally. And have sold 100 million albums and are considered influential.....broke new ground (blending heavy metal with punk and then metal with operatic & prog). and world class players

Little Feat never filled arenas but they are a band's band.

Marshall Tucker Band had a 6 year run in the 70s that should do it alone. So many great songs and some uniqueness with rock/jazz/country/flute mix.

I'm hoping Judas Priest gets in because it is then harder to keep out Iron Maiden.

I currently volunteer at a Long Term Care home and have a band with some of the residents plus a couple of buddies to round it out.

For the most part we do exactly that - all the oldies plus a few ABB songs of course. We play shows at other long term care homes. Blending 50s-60s-early 70s stuff.

One singer has terminal lung cancer.

Another singer/harmonica player has full blown dementia. You should hear him play. Unbelievable.

Another singer had cancer which is in remission. He also has crippling arthritis and weighs about 70 lbs.

Our encore singer is mentally disabled and loves music more than anyone I ever met. He sings so loud that he needs no mic or PA. LOL - He has trouble with words but his timing and pitch are bang on. He sings Twist and Shout to finish shows. There is no one that can follow him.

Then our drummer - his initials are STD. He is a cancer survivor, has COPD, in a wheelchair, suffers from some pelvic/spinal disorder and is on constant oxygen.

Quite a band - people at the homes love us. They consider us "heavy" lol. Well we do play Bob Dylan on electrics.

Fun to play all that old stuff. Playing it with these guys is definitely something else. One of my favorite groups that I have played with. Don't think we will make it BIG but every show these guys do makes them so happy. Unreal.

We do a Stormy Monday which can extend to 10 minutes sometimes. It depends on the harmonica player and how long he solos, then my turn followed by some call response stuff between the guitar and harmonica. Sadly he doesn't know where he is, confused, angry and is incredibly paranoid. But once the healing music starts then he just flows. Better some days than others but when he is on........look out. Gives him such peace. I never witnessed anything like it.

The first time they wheeled him in ( 3 of them are in wheelchairs.) and I handed him a mic. We started off and he immediately started blowing crazy harp. My jaw completely dropped.
