Here are the candidates that were just announced:

Chicago
The Cars
Yes
Deep Purple
Cheap Trick
Chaka Khan
The Spinners
Steve Miller Band
Los Lobos
NWA
The Smiths
Nine Inch Nails
Janet Jackson
Chic

Got some new acts on the list this time. The Cars and Chicago have been nominated after years of being snubbed. Chic has been nominated forever and has been snubbed forever. Good to see Deep Purple and Yes back on the list. Hopefully they will get in this year.

You left The JB's off the list of nominees. They were also nominated.

With this group, Deep Purple finally has to get in right?

Everybody gets 5 votes, mine would go to:

Deep Purple
Los Lobos
The JB's
Cheap Trick
Chicago

Aside from the annual argument over who is not on the list, I'd have to say that this is a pretty agreeable slate - even though all are not on my personal menu.

I have to confess - I don't know who the JB's are (is this an abbreviation?).

The Cars were always a guilty pleasure of mine! I love Eliot Easton's picking!

TuffJew is right about Chicago. I saw them play a private show (homebuilders conference in Vegas about 15 years ago). Every song had been a major hit! Even with personnel changes - every player is first-string! Commercial music doesn't usually register with me, but these guys are all that!

Thought continued - Steve Miller (the Steve Miller Band) is another one of those players who have become almost too commercially popular. A lot of those 80's and 90's hits were tantamount to rolling over and playing dead for the sake of airplay/sales. At the same time, this was the guy who played early on with folks like Buddy Guy and Junior Wells and got his first lessons from THE Les Paul! Go see him live - Steve is one of the truly great players out there! I'd certainly cast a vote in his favor!

Los Lobos - these guys have become one of my top 10 favorite bands over the past several years. I can't think of another act with a more diverse range of style. All are excellent musicians - on multiple instruments! I've seen 'em un-plugged, electric and in combination. I'd drive a couple o' hundred miles to catch their show! Put 'em in there!

I have to confess - I don't know who the JB's are (is this an abbreviation?).

The JB's were James Brown's backing band in the late 60's and 70's after The Famous Flames. At different times they included Bootsy & Catfish Collins, Fred Wesley, Jabo Starks, Maceo Parker, Bobby Byrd and many others. James also played with the band. They released a few albums in the 70. Really great musicians who helped Brown change his sound to the more funky approach from the late 60's - the mid 70s.

Here are a couple of examples of the JB's from their own releaes...

I do hope Deep Purple and Yes make it in. I would also assume NWA will get it (gotta spread the love around and they have the movie to boost votes). Chicago should get it also.

But doubtful Steve Miller will make it in. As Miles Davis said in his autobiography, "Steve Miller is a sorry-ass cat who couldn't play his way out of a paper bag!" Not sure I agree, but it always made me think.

I'm a huge Miles Davis fan, but I disagree vehemently with this statement. Perhaps Miles didn't care for Steve's commercial-grade stuff? Another point: most of the jazz purists hated "Bitches Brew" - citing that one as "Miles' "rock album". Personal taste sometimes gets in the way of being objective.

If Steve Miller doesn't get in, I hope they say it is because of Abracadabra. That song alone should be a major block in his election.

Ha-ha! I agree! He certainly recorded a bunch of "candy" that sold like ... candy! On some level, he should be ashamed of himself! There's no denying his deeper skills and talent, though.

The Rock Hall seems to love inducting way overdue bands right about the point where there is a lot of internal turmoil with ex-band members. GNR, VH, Kiss, etc. So Yes should be a lock now!

Not that I agree with this, but I wouldn't count out Janet Jackson. She brings ratings, and that's what this is about.

Come to think of it,
it is an absolute disgrace that Little Feat and Delaney + Bonnie are not in yet.
I have to question who votes on these things.

There is more to that story as I read it. Miles was pissed that he was opening for Steve Miller on Tour; he would purposely show late to force the promoter to open with Steve Miller so Miles could close.

He shouldn't bee too upset. Jimi got booed when he opened for the Monkees

I have little interest since The Paul Butterfield finally got in. Which was long over due. At least they got in before Bon Jovi. Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

I don't agree on how over the years they have made people sweat it out as far as getting into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. "The Big Man" Clarence Clemons died a very bitter man because The E Street Band was not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I won't even go into what happen with The Miracles.
