Farewell to an Alabama legend - whose renown actually spans the world.

"Microwave Dave", as he was known - was legendary in his own state, but he got a lot of deserved world-wide attention.  His cover of Bo Didley's, "Roadrunner" was used by a French soccer (futbol, I mean) team as part of their promotional materials and played over the PA to rally fans.  Writer, Stephen King actually cites Dave and his band as one of his favorites - which gave them some good PR.

Before that, Dave was an Air Force intelligence officer in Viet Nam - where he once found himself in a jam he wasn't sure he was gonna get out of.  During this moment, he pledged that if he DID escape he was going to spend the rest of his days making music.  He even has an autobiography in which he relates that story.

Dave also started several charitable foundations - including one that secured donated instruments and lessons for school children.

If you can read the entire story (sometimes the site will block you after the first visit) you'll find some ABB (Dickey) content.

My own encounters (which were numerous) proved that Dave was one of the nicest folks on this planet - picker or not.

Condoleces to Dave's family, friends and fans - which must number in the millions.  Good Blues in Heaven tonight.
