Chuck Negron was a founding member of Three Dog Night and sang lead on most, though not all, of their big hits.  And the list of hits was ridiculous:  21 Top 40 hits between 1969 and 1975.  I always thought that they were without a doubt one of the greatest vocal groups ever in popular music.  However, the big H dragged TDN down.  I won't go into detail, but Negron's addiction was legendary and depressing.  He finally got clean in 1991 and released seven solo records.  I've never heard the solo records (I need to), but I did see him as a solo act in Santa Cruz, I'm guessing that might have been around 2005.  I just couldn't believe how great his voice still was.  He was born with a gift.  As the title indicates, Chuck's 1999 biography, Three Dog Nightmare, was nothing short of a harrowing tale.  I give Chuck credit, he never set out to whitewash himself.  The book was entirely honest.

ABB connection:  After the death of Berry Oakley in 1972, Negron was married to Oakley's widow, Linda Oakley, for several years.
