Pretending

Gotta be the most underrated Clapton song. It's awesome.

Yes it is!! That was the opening song when i saw him in 1990 in Dallas. Saw that show 2 days after my 5th b-day!! My very first concert!!

Comes from the best album of a bad era for my tastes in Clapton. The previous two albums saw Phil Collins almost destroy Clapton. 😉
Eric was lost and just trying for commercial success again. Gave up the reigns and played some pretty weak material. The funny part is that he did have success.
Journeyman was a step in the right direction for sure. I think radio killed Pretending for me a bit. Among the singles from the album, I prefer Bad Love especially from a guitar standpoint.
The following album which was the soundtrack for Rush is a hidden gem that many people don't know or own. Killer guitar work and set up Eric's blues return with From The Cradle.
But Pretending, Bad Love and a fairly strong effort gave Clapton his biggest selling solo album with Journeyman.

I like both of those tunes also. The versions he does from 24 Nights are solid.
That whole release is a very good.
Bad Love 24 nights( I like the way he feedsback the guitar into the opening guitar lick!!)

I was never a real big fan of the song Forever man, but I like this one with Steve Winwood.
Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

I feel that way about "Ramblin' Man".

The sustained first note of Clapton's solo in the middle of the 24 Nights "Old Love" is one of my favorite notes of all time (as is the first note of Derek's solo in Worried Down With The Blues from the One Way Out album).
