I know several of us were fortunate to make it to MSG to see The Brothers on March 10. I was certainly concerned with the environment and luckily experienced no symptoms as a result. Oteil had a different experience.

In a recent Instagram post, Dead & Company bassist Oteil Burbridge recounts his family’s brush with COVID-19 and subsequent donation of plasma to critically ill patients still recovering.

“About a week after Jess and I got home from our trip to NYC for ABB 50 on March 10, we started having Covid symptoms and were both sick for several days, but it wasn’t severe,” he wrote via Instagram. “…Last week, [my wife] Jess got an email from her doctor saying that they had Covid antibody tests so we scheduled an appointment and sure enough, tested positive for the antibodies (but it was confirmed we were no longer shedding the virus). The great thing about a positive antibody test is that you can donate plasma to help critically ill Covid patients.”

Burbridge closes his message by calling on those who have recovered from COVID-19 to donate plasma like he and his wife did: “It’s a unique and special opportunity where you could quite literally save someone’s life.”

First of all - I hope Oteil and family have recovered and are doing fine.

Anybody else from the band (that evening) also have the virus?

Not to be an ingrate, but they shouldn't have had that show. Anybody in the audience develop the virus?
I kinda feel that the band should apologize for even playing the show. I already told ya I'm an ingrate.

Their two young kids got sick as well. They're fine now, but that's very upsetting. We already knew Kirk and Kirsten West and a handful of people who played or worked the Love Rocks show two nights later also caught COVID (Larry Campbell and Jackson Browne among others). Logic tells you some fans got sick at the Brothers show, too, even if we don't know their names. It's nothing we didn't know already, but NY should've been shut down weeks earlier. It would have been a shame to lose this concert, but it would've saved a lot of lives.

quite scary

the convalescent plasma seems to work. We discharged a guy yesterday who was quite sick and turned around rapidly after he got it.
Good for Oteil for donating
