Free jazz is certainly not everyone's cup of tea. But I give Ornette credit for following his musical vision despite enormous criticism. Years ago listened to an interview he did. Very down to earth guy. RIP

Tried a few years ago to get into him but couldn't. Would be willing to try again if someone can offer up an album to check out. Do like his sit in with the Dead on 2-23-1993

Had the privilege of seeing Ornette sit in with Sonny Rollins (80 bday concert at beacon) and Roy Haynes. Combined 248 years of Jazz Giants shoulder to shoulder (and Roy was the oldest and looked like he could kick my a**) The CD is well worth the purchase on SonnyRollins.com

for me, personally, Shape of Jazz to Come is fairly approachable. you might need to listen a few times
