A, if not The, pioneer of freeform improv -- played his music, had tomatoes thrown at him, stayed with it -- played w/Jerry G -- haven't listened to Song X, the late 80s album he did w/Pat Matheney, in ages --

Saw him a few years ago at the Beacon with Sonny Rollins (80 bday concert) and Roy Haynes. They were like 249 years old. Worth getting the disc from Sonny's web site
