Saw him back in the day at this now closed venue in San Diego. A friend of mine was a huge fan and turned me onto Nils through this album....Always had an appreciation for his stuff

Nils is a great player who is completely underused and under appreciated in Springsteen's band.

Yet he cashes his paychecks and hasn't left yet.

By whom? The fans? I don't think so, as if you go on the Springsteen boards, they speak in reverential terms.
Bruce? He asked him to stay, even when he got Little Steven back in the band and he hasn't left yet. I don't see it?

Would you? Hell, he has played with Neil Young and Bruce for most of his career. Pretty cool if you ask me. If you get a chance, pick up Bruce's "London's Calling" DVD. I don't recall which song but he plays some of the most amazing slide I have ever heard.

Ironically, I JUST bought The Very Best of Grin about a month ago.

Amazing talent IMO.

BigV, what a great place The Bacchanal was…..i saw Albert Collins there in 1985….one of the most intimate music venues i have ever been in..John Mayall opened and featured Coco Montoya on guitar. there were about 40 people there…..great place….also the Belly Up in Solona Beach…..great area for music….

ABBsolutely not.

As a longtime Springsteen fan I love having him in the band.

Agreed!... Living in SD and being an avid concert "goer", both the Belly-Up and the Bacchanal are very familiar to me! The Belly up and I are old friends, (Gregg Allman let me in the back door there) seen so many acts there over the years, David Lindley & El Rayo X, Little Feat, Bionnie Raitt, John Hiatt, Boz Scaggs, GA, DB, Freddy Jones, Susan Tedeschi w/Ron Holloway and so on. The Bacchanal as well, Les Dudek, GA, DB, Nils and the Busboys to name a few...
Cool

I just made reference to an old Roy Buchanan documentary that has a couple guests with Roy including Nils (and Johnny & Shuggie Otis along with Merle Haggard - they're in Part 1)

Young Nils plays Shotgun with Roy at around the 7:40 mark.
