"How would you describe the approach to improvisation in Dead and Company?
There’s a real New Orleans approach to a lot of the jams where everyone is soloing all the time but not fully. Sometimes it’s meant for the whole band to do it and sometimes it’s supposed to be more supportive of the soloist, but there’s always an awareness of rhythmic and harmonic counterpoint and everything is about melody..."
Good description of Phil's bands.
