I just finished one of the new Marshall Tucker live CDs. The band performance was great the audio quality was not the best. You can listen to it but it is only to hear the band. I had forgotten how good of a guitar player Toy was. I have no problem saying that at the time of this recording 9-77 Toy was playing better than Dickey.

Doug Gray should be ashamed that they released a cd of that audio quality. There is no bigger fan of that era MTB than I but considering the quality of the previous archive releases the Englishtown one is a joke. The performance is not done justice by this release.

Too bad about the audio quality. I have not heard the release but I was at that show and I vividly remember great music and a great time . Was looking to pick that up along with Dick's Pick # 16 which I believe is the Dead from that same show.

Agree, no excuse. MTB in there prime could blow most bands off the stage. Like ABB, in a live setting they flat out smoked. I have better bootlegs that equal what they put out for quality. I put up a vine of their 3-16-76 show where they opened for the Brothers. Check it out. Toy and the boys are on fire.

There's a show in circulation from 9/77 ( I don't know the exact date off the top of my head) from Santa Monica with Chuck Leavell sitting in. It's one of my favorite shows, period. An unbelievable version of Never Trust a Stranger.

Let's not forget the commonly traded show from Boston.

I played that for my sons when we were on our way to see Doug Gray & the Sidekicks at the Taste of Syracuse a few years back.

I also told them that was how good the band was in it's prime and not to expect anything remotely close to it now.

Sadly, I was spot on with my preview.

You certainly were Ron..A good friend of mine recently saw them at B.B. Kings...He was very disappointed. Seems Doug Gray told countless stories about the old days, which at first were entertaining, then became boring and finally irritating..He said "never again"...Fact that B.B.s is not the cheapest venue I'm sure didn't help!

OUCH!

At least the show we saw was a freebie.

Yeah, Doug is nothing more than an MC now, telling stories and flirting with the ladies in the crowd.

Embarrassing.

I noticed he barely mentioned Tommy & Toy during the TOS show, almost pulling a henry paul revisionist history approach.

Damn shame that he insists on calling this the MTB, it's not even close.
