I really dig "Don't Back Down."  A nice pounding rocker with some intricate playing. Very cool concept in the video and funny as shit at the end....I like that he seems not to take himself too seriously given the fun he's sort of poking at himself.

I also notice he seems to really prefer semi hollow bodied guitars.  That blonde Gibson (I think that's what it is) is one sweet ax.  As is the 335...

It's also cool that we get some neat footage of the famous "5150" studio. Legend is it was always in a  pretty messy state of affairs and so it would appear Wolfgang gave it a thorough spring cleaning....lol.

I bought this album and am looking forward to hearing more of it soon.

I enjoy the opening and closing bits. Very funny. He might have some acting chops! Makes me laugh.

The ending he does a pickscrape  on the guitar. Was that a nod to the ending of "So This Is Love"

I think he is playing a Fender Starcaster. I have seen one before.

I was wondering if that was 5150.Like you said I heard its more like a workshop/studio...messy.

The 2nd song Think it Over is not my cup of tea. Not that its band,just to "pop" radio friendly for my tastes.

Wolf has talent no doubt about that. It will be interesting to see where he goes in the future. Will he continue to do everything, or will he make it more of a "band" with his touring lineup.

@jszfunk

I agree about the second tune....Too poppy for my tastes.  So that's a Fender Starcaster?  It has a unique head stock and so I almost thought it might be a custom built guitar but thanks for the clarification.

As far as 5150 is concerned, I do believe the workshop area where Ed and others worked on guitars, amps, etc. is next to the actual studio and is part of Ed's underground garage complex.

In a recent podcast featuring Ed's guitar tech. from the 2007 and 2012 tours, the tech. mentions first meeting Ed at 5150 and looking in one of Ed's garage bays and seeing three vintage Ferrari's parked there.  If I understood him correctly, the workshop is between the garage and the actual studio.

I too am curios about the future of Mammoth WVH as a band and if it will morph into more of a collaborative situation as it moves forward.  As I'm sure you and anyone who has followed Wolf up to this point knows, this first album was inspired by the Dave Grohl Foo Fighters debut in which Grohl did everything.

Wolf has stated he wanted to see if he could do the same thing.  Judging by what I've heard thus far, including the tune "You're To Blame," he accomplished his mission as he clearly is skilled as not just a multi-instrumentalist, but as a songwriter, singer, bandleader, etc.....My only critique is the music is definitely of the digital world as it has that polished pro tools sound so common today.

One other thing he has mastered is marketing in this day and age.  Just the way he's releasing and promoting his music is impressive given he's relatively new to such things.  And again, not taking any of it too seriously is part of his charm.

@jszfunk I was in the big music store here recently and Fender has some crazy new guitars. I wouldn't be interested but it's the Parallel Universe line.

The Stratocaster version has the Strat neck (rosewood but with Les Paul type inlay) and headstock. But the body looks like the occasional double cutaway Telecaster with a finish that looks like cookies and cream ice cream. It has tone and volume knobs like a typical Telecaster but they are positioned like a Les Paul. The pickup switch is up on the upper horn like a Les Paul ( Up for neck, middle for both bridge and neck like a Les Paul and down for the bridge pickup). Only two pickups. Two big humbuckers. Jimmy Herring has two Fender custom shop Strats with two humbuckers but the rest of the guitar is typical Stratocaster. The bridge on this Parallel Universe Strat looks to be typical Stratocaster with a whammy. But the bridge and headstock on this thing is the only things that look Strat to me. The rest is a Les Paul/Telecaster hybrid I would say.
