Hey Andrew!

The whole thing can be streamed here (learnt this from TanDan):

I have listened twice and like it more than I expected (lots of banjo). Derek is on track 9 Forgotten Coast.

Picked my cd up from my local indie yesterday. Like every McMurtry recod there is always at least 1 song that I would have bought it for and on this one it is Carlisle's Haul which I absolutely love. The Derek appearance is restrained and tasteful as one would expect. Look forward to deeper listening and catching him on the tour.

He puts on a good show. Sounds pretty much like his CDs. He isn't personable, rarely smiles, can go on political shpeels, tough to get an autograph, even in a small club.

Having said all of that, if you like his releases you would like a show. Well worth the price he normally charges.

He is coming here to Chicago April 23rd. Playing a larger club than he normally does here. 22 bucks. Can't beat it. Looking forward to this one.

I like Carlisle's a lot too. Who else but JM sings about seines and dunkey motors? The other standouts to me are Long Island Sound and Ain't Got a Place.

Here is 30 min solo JM from last week of about 6 of the new songs (compliments of TanDan, natch):

Many thanks for that. Just watched and enjoyed it. James was almost downright talkative. And those other 2 you mention are also ones that caught my ear on 1st listen.

Thanks for posting this. For those who have never seen him live, this footage/sound is indicative of what you can expect from a McMurtry show.

On a related note, IMO one of the greatest live albums EVER is his "Live in Aught Three", released in 2004 I believe. "Choctaw Bingo" is one of the best songs I have ever heard. The tempo and jamming are off the charts. And the lyrics if you pay attention to them are fascinating. He is a very thoughtful songwriter, even though I think he sometimes gets too political with some of them.

Here is the whole show from last night, though audio is often poor.

Good times w/ Mr and Mrs TanDan last night. And I met Cornbread!
