Heard yet another rumor Gregg is looking yet again for two new guitarists and wants to put the band back together

ABB is overwith but I thought Scott Sharrard was a really good player -- whatever makes bro. Gregg happy...thanks always Gregg for the tunes

Several recent interviews with Gregg that have been posted in this section would say otherwise as he is talking about how he is much more relaxed in his band with nobody else to answer to.

However, anything is possible and with the dysfunction that this band/management has shown over the years it wouldn't surprise me either. I just don't think it is at all likely that Gregg would be the one pushing for it.

So where are these rumors coming from?

Close the book. Over the last few years, they could still play terrific shows but there was not a lot of inspiration in terms of new material. I would not be that excited about two new guitar players playing the same old material.

Old rumours never really die on the internet. Most likely based on absolutely nothing. I hope they will never comtemplate reuniting with 2 new guitarists. Give it a rest. Maybe a one-off reunion with the last line-up for a benefit show which they deem appropriate would be nice in a few years from now.

Already tired of playing state fairs and co-bills with the Doobie Brothers?....or finding that ABB repertoire without the improv isn't all that satisfying?...Why not deliberately hearken to his early solo career, play Queen of Hearts" etc plus solo acoustic and grand piano sets to distinguish himself artistically?

$100 bucks that whomever started or re-started this rumor was watching the Dead 50th and got to dreaming....

I hope it never happens. Go out like Jordan with the Bulls, not the Wizards.

Right, how dare they consider replacing fill in the blank and fill in the blank with fill in the blank and fill in the blank

It certainly is unusual for a band to have lineup changes over time.... 😛

I wonder if any member of the band or management - seeing the webcasts, video and audio recordings and other "after market" products coming from the (Grateful) Dead's final stand is wishing for a Mulligan. Wonder if they're starting to feel that they left a LOT of money on the table?

Yep, lotta money and even more respect: can the animosity that reportedly exists between some (or all ) of the core GD four really be less of an obstacle than the friction that developed among ABB in their latter days? And yet Butch, Gregg, Holman et.al. couldn't, for all the sanctimonious self-avowed loyalty to the legacy, find a way to rise above it?????

The amount left on the table on archival recordings alone is staggering, IMO.

How much does the ABB actually have in the vault that is of releasable quality? Does anyone know?

If there is anything, who owns the rights? I'm not even sure the ABB even owns their own archives and master recordings. They didn't have good record deals back in the day.

The Grateful Dead's merch machine and their fan base is on a whole different level.

While I am a huge fan of the ABB, I don't think there is as much demand or money in archival release as us die hard fans on here think. It might even be a break even proposition or even a money loser depending on who owns the recordings.

I agree w/this, chances are there's no real market for any more archive releases -- really grateful for what Has been put out there tho
I love the ABB

I don't really know how much material is in the vault that is worth releasing, but if you want proof the ABB left money on the table, consider this...

The Allman Brothers Band Live At Fillmore WEST

This is something that could have happened--SHOULD have happened--years ago. I guess it still could, but I've given up hope.

If there was ever an ABB archive release that would have stood out from the crowd and appealed to more than just hardcore fans like us, that was it.

Rob, if you are talking about the new years eve 73 show from the Fillmore West, it is getting an unofficial (bootleg) release in a couple of weeks. There are some questionable releases if you check out Amazon's UK page coming up for that show.

Great show and it should be out there for the public.

Have loved that 1973 NYEve show from the Cow Palace in SF for many years -- really about the finest hour for this lineup, along w/the 5/1/73 Mtn. Jam

Nope, talking about Duane-era shows that would have been a true compliment to the original Fillmore East album.

I am glad the '73 stuff is getting released, but that is a different beast and not really the same thing as Fillmore East, at least in my opinion.

Were the Fillmore West shows with Duane ever recorded? That was the first I've heard of that even being a possibility.

There are definitely recordings of the band with Duane at Fillmore West. It's not just a possiblity, WarEagle, it was fully prepared for release years back.

There are several other threads you can search for on here that talk about it. Liner notes were written, and at one point I think it was even promoted as "the next Archive release."

Shortly thereafter the plug was pulled on the whole Archive series, for reasons I never have understood and probably never will.

Wow. That's highly disappointing to hear. I never knew that there was another Archive release ready to go before they put the stop to them. The dysfunction of this band at all levels except on the stage at times is amazing.

As Gregg said, there's more than enough of that old stuff out there already...

Exactly
am always grateful to the tape traders -- these & other shows like 2/28/71 Brewer Fldhse -- 7/17/71 Atlanta -- certainly 9/16/71 NO....
...these & other Duane-Berry shows are m-u-s-i-c to the ears of their listeners -- thank you again, tape traders
