Thought this might be a good place to get some ideas on car sound.

Problem: Survivor 72 Firebird that I want to keep the original AM radio in with single rear speaker. Don't want to hack any wiring up and don't want any modifications to car. But I want CD play!

Solution (?): Portable system with 12V cigarette lighter power source. Could wire 12V from fuse panel if I have to. Want self contained with good sound. Thinking something I can set on back seats. Do they make anything good now? Will I need to shop for old boom-box technology? Want CD play. THX for any ideas.

My buddy has a Bose system in the glove compartment with the speakers in the back. Sounds great and didn't mess with his car.

Bird, we've had an issue with the mother board for the stereo system in our 2003 Honda accord. Rather than keep replacing mother boards, I use an 80 gig Ipod classic along with a bose portable speaker on backseat. great sound & listening to all my favs on shuffle. works great and we don't have to haul the cd's.
