"Mountain Jam" 8/14/05 - Derek & Jack & Ron

I'm always surprised at the lack of love for this show - the Rosemont show from the night before gets its fair share of props, but this unique Warren-less show is a BEAST. Jack Pearson and Ron Holloway stepped in for Warren, and with a few nights under their belt together, they were firing on all cylinders, especially on an epic "Mountain Jam". Jack never really got to do more than tease during his tenure in the band, so it's great to hear him team with Derek and Ron and stretch it out. Derek usually shines on "Mountain Jam" - his balls out playing make it easy to tell why he was instrumental in wanting to resurrect the tune when the Allmans were down to one vocalist in summer 2000 - but he sounds like his guitar is on fire here. There are a lot of epic versions of "Mountain Jam" out there, but this is a very unique, very intense version - the whole concert is worth checking out.

This is an excellent show. Both the shows you mention are actually. It is one of my favorite "Mountain Jam's".

great show.
I'll have to pull out the I/L discs and play it

I usually don't like the guitarists splitting up the "Dreams" duties, so when you think Jack and Derek would split it up in a whole new way, Derek plays the whole thing absolutely lights out - all kinds of feedback. Jack does take "Statesboro", he's the smoothest slide player since Duane. Interesting to hear Jack play the "Dickey part" on "One Way Out", too.

And Ron really just adds it when you need it - a little here on "Southbound", "'Hot Lanta", "You Don't Love Me", and a ton of tasty sax on "Mountain Jam".

The dueling slides on "Stand Back" from 8/13 is another doozy.

pulled out the show this w/e
thanks for the reminder - it's a great one

Both 8-13 and 8-14 are excellent shows. Pearson added a different element and it always seemed to work well.

8-13 is sold out, unfortunately

Ya that is the unfortunate thing about the old instant lives. A lot of them are sold out. I really want the Essex Junction show from 2005 and I'm probably going to have to get it on ebay for an inflated price.

had the pleasure of being at this one..
monster doesn't begin to describe it

8/14? Or 8/13?
8/13 had a great "Stand Back" and a "Franklins Tower" I enjoy.
8/14 was highlighted by a great Mountain Jam. Jack just goes off at around the 14 minute mark.

8/19/05 with Jack Pearson, Derek, and Warren is very good too.
I was at that show and loved the music played there. I'm not sure if they still sell the instant live for it, or not?
