I was astonished at Monica Barbaro's talent when I saw the film. And I'm about five times as astonished after reading this article and finding out that she learned to play guitar and to sing like Joan Baez...........IN NINE MONTHS TIME!! Wowie is all I can say. And she's only 26. We'll obviously be hearing a lot more from her, and not just in music. She's already started filming her next one, in London. There's also commentary here from Joan Baez herself, who saw the film and loved it.

The performance sequences I saw in the movie, there were no "tells" of somebody actually singing with proper diaphragm support and technique utilized for vibrato. Maybe they recorded her singing it prior and she lip synched it for filming? No big deal for me being it was just an actress playing a part. Her ass got bigger after the underwear scene in the apartment as the movie went on, another common Hollywood thing. Neither thing ruined my enjoyment of the movie or the performance/portrayal of the people doing Dylan and Baez respectively.
