I have a lot of respect for Gilmore.  In 2019 he auctioned off 135 of his guitars and raised just shy of 22 million dollars which David donated to address climate change.

His famous black Stratocaster sold for over 2 million. A Martin acoustic for over 1 million and the Les Paul David used on The Wall sold for a half a million.

Unrelated to Gilmore but some Sunday brunch.

Devil Worship from the Stones!

I see John Lennon three times in this and maybe Pete Townsend once.

Imagine Gregg Allman instead of Mick Jagger if you watch.

Butch Trucks : " Atlantic Records gave us no chance of making it. Told Phil Walden to get Gregg out from behind that organ, cram a salami down his pants and have him jump around like Mick Jagger".

As for it being "his" huge hit, Roger Waters wrote the lyrics.

@nebish Thank you. I wasn't aware Roger wrote the lyrics. The article I read Friday was on Gilmore and brought out Money being a negative critique of Captialism while that system allowed Gilmore to become lavishly RICH.

Just checked Roger Waters' net worth.

As of 2019 $310 MILLION dollars. Think Roger is really down on Captialism?

Like you said with Gilmour, and I am sure with Waters, being outstanding philanthropists.  I'm not going to defend their opinions or assail their careers.  Some people make it, some people don't.  They can square their views with their success and we all make our own outlooks on life.

I think the criticism is that the profit motive inherent in capitalism leaves a great deal of destruction in its wake....Is there a system that encourages hard work for a modest or great return but leaves far fewer people left by the wayside?  I suspect that's the question Gilmour, and frankly many very rich people, are asking.

Truth is this nation and the world for that matter is once again in a time and place where wealth has become EXTREMELY concentrated in the hands of very few people.  The recent history of mankind has shown that when such extreme disparities in wealth accumulation gets to this point things become very ugly and mankind as whole suffers tremendously.  We've been here before and it wasn't pretty.

Capitalism without guard rails is not good.  To bring it back to Gilmour, if he becomes so rich at the expense of his fans that they can't afford to purchase what he's selling, than what's the point?  Eventually the system implodes on itself...

Well...when you can charge $150 just to get in the door, and they sell them out...well there doesn't seem to be a problem for the artist.

Unless I'm wrong - to Gilmour's credit or loyalty, he's one of the few British superstars who haven't moved (usually to America) to avoid paying seriously high income taxes.  Anybody know for sure?

@rusty David Gilmore lives with his family on his farm in Sussex, England and the family owns a beautiful home in Have and a houseboat complete with a fully equipped recording studio in Astoria.

Roger Waters who also is a multimillionaire ($310 Million in US dollars) has his main residence at Bridgehampton, N.Y.

So between those two you are correct. Bill Clinton after moving to New York State commented he was very happy to have relocated from Arkansas to New York. One of the reasons is New York has very high income taxes which helps he and Hillary pay their fair share.

Okay so Roger Waters is in one of the high tax states here but I imagine it is still a better deal than paying taxes in the UK.

Mick Jagger has homes in Saratoga, New York and Florida and a net worth of $360 million in US dollars.

Keith Richards net worth $340 million dollars has homes in Sussex, England, a private island at Parrot Cay but his main and official residence is a large mansion in Weston, Connecticut. So Richards is officially living in the US.

Eric Clapton net worth in 2021 $450 million dollars owns a mansion in Ripley, England but his main residence is a large mansion  with large pool, tennis court and golf course in Dublin, Ohio!!!  And Clapton paid 14 million for a 10,000 square foot house on 45 acres in Antigua. Like David Gilmore, Clapton is a car collector and has a collection of Ferraris worth $50 million. Unfortunately Clapton now has peripheral neuropathy which causes pain in the legs and back which is making it difficult for Clapton to play the guitar giving him pause and thoughts of retirement.

Well, Peter Green wanted Mac to donate all their profits to some  charity.  The rest of the Band said, Ummm, No.

The best things in life are free.  Money, it's a gas.  You never give me your money, you just give me your funny papers.  Somebody loan me a dime.  I got one more silver dollar.  Baby, you're a rich man.

@bird72  Clapton, Gilmore, Jagger, Waters, Richards etc with 3 and 4 hundred million is certainly a pile of cash. Add it to my stack in the back they say. Don Henley of the Eagles is over $200 million.

Then you have the billionairs of recent capitalism.  Bill Gates, Charles Koch, Warren Buffett over $80 BILLION dollars which suddenly makes Eric Clapton seem like a man of modest means. Jeff Bezos over 100 BILLION!!!

There is one rock musician worth over a billion dollars and that is Paul McCartney.

Dickey was the wealthiest in the ABB at $40 million which is a tremendous amount of money to me.

In the 1970's all the musicians I hung around were borrowing money from me! But they could play Cross Roads exactly like Cream.

They use to say " What do you call a musician who's girlfriend just broke up with him? Homeless!"

There was a nice story on the news over the holidays about Carlos Santana looking up a former member of his band who was then homeless and broke.
