Occurred to me as One Way Out kicked in... many numbers bring up a specific image or movie stored in my mind, and act as a time machine to a moment. One Way Out without fail acceses standing in the back of a truck in the Watkins Glen traffic jam, then associated visions of the event flood my head. Houses of the Holy... 4 a.m. paper route in high school, driving around heaving Sunday papers one time accidentally smashed a glass door. What Is and What Should Never Be.... hitch-hiking ride from Denver to Baltimore, LZ2 the only 8 track driver had, and the agony of listening to him singing along to every song the entire trip. Killed my love of Zep for years after! Especially when he tried to hit the highs on "Ride the wind gonna see ya spin...." brutal

Great Post ! Hellbound Train-Savoy Brown...standing stage front till 2 am ending the show with that song, then slowly filing out into the streets with Jesus Freaks & their buses all around us. Stairway to Heaven..suddenly arriving 30' at stage centre watching as Page & Plant seemed to be staring at us & singing directly to us! To Cry You a Song-looking down from utop the pressbox as Jethro Tull & the 'mad minstrel' perform... with bonfires burning all around the stadium as riot police watch on. Pink Floyd-as the stage Volcano Erupts in flames, lights & explosions as the opening notes of 'Dark Side' begin immediately following Echoes, wondering wtf just happened...Liz Reed playing on & on while Duane solos and a great calmness fills the arena as everyone stands...mesmerized...timeless ! Brown Sugar & the Bitch playing as Mick Taylor & Keith trade solos while I'm standing on the rail at stage left in the full capacity arena...Midnight Rider-as Dickie,Warren,Woody & Greg play unplugged..quietly watching within a burly crowd of Hells Angels..to our right & left...
Good memories...

Cool

you've started a couple of cool threads Cool

two for me, at my age, get revved up on classic rock stations.

the first one, "Night Moves" by Seger, I think it was around '76 or so, I was standing on a balcony overlooking the ocean with three girls from Michigan on spring break... 😉 Every time I hear that tune I go back 30-something years...

same thing with Kansas' "Wayward Son", also around '76, I think. I was on my first of two hitch-hiking trips across our fair land shortly after the spring break "get together" and I was standing outside a truck stop somewhere in Louisiana and I met Debbie...just sitting there, with her long wavy brown hair and greyish-blue eyes and we talked and sure enough she said, "California? Sure!" Our first ride was the back of a pickup truck, some old dude driving, and we're lying there, laughing and having a great time and that tune came on. Man, it was awesome. Cool

many others from that time but those two hit it for me... Grin

I remember as a little kid, maybe 10, I was in the car with my parents on a drive to my grandparents' house. I remember it being nighttime, and American Pie came on the radio. I'm certain I had never heard that song before.

I remember the song seeming to go on forever, but that it was also really cool, and what I really remember is my parents in the front seat singing along word-for-word for the full song.

Every time I hear that song, I remember that moment.

Any fans of Criminal Minds will recall the "Piano Man Killer" episode. Reed picks his age exactly by the music he played at the rape scenes/murders. Our teenage emotions make associations with muscic stronger than at any other time

Late '70's and we were in Junior high, thinking we were the coolest people on the planet, walking around in our jeans and jean jackets, looking like Epstein from Welcome Back, Kotter! We had a portable 8 track player and only 2 8 tracks: Zeppelin 4 and Dark Side of the Moon. To this day, when I hear Black Dog or Time, it immediately takes me back.

Oh, and Stuck in the Middle with You makes my ear hurt...and I wince...from Reservoir Dogs...

The strongest of associations that are subconscious triggered association are strongest from younger years (12-14).

White Room: walking down a tree lined street in Rutherford New Jersey age 12 it on portable AM radio as I walked.

Blackbird: again small AM / FM where the DJ played Blackbird. Age 13 and it struck me as impressive social commentary.

Sunshine of Your Love: age 11 playing air guitar to it on sisters guitar in living room, nobody home.

more, but these are forever linked....

I keep all my stubs I was able to, I have most of my memory flashbacks going thru them. Friends who've passed and times we've shared. Some songs do link up to certain people.

I have an Ipod with 2,500 of my fav tunes on shuffle, I normally recall the next track that follows the tune at the close out and go Oooooo, Nice. Music is good for the soul.

I was 13 and a camper when my counselor put Coltrane Live at The Village Vanguard on his turntable. Life has never been quite the same since.

Let me start off by saying great topic. For me songs bring back people and/ or time frame. ABB F.E. And EAP are early high school. The time they were released. Steely Dan Can't Buy a Thrill mid high school. The Fix remind me of Jill and The Verve of Kim. The Sex Pistols were one college spring break only because someone had scrawled " Sid Lives" on the wall at the hotel. Disco reminds me of many gals I met durning that period. Return to Forever and John McLaughlin were the bands I went to after Some of the bands I like got to mainstream.

There are many

as a kid, 5 or 6 years old, on the patio of my parents house strumming our plastic guitars and singing, pretending to be Beatles with Meet the Beatles and Introducing th Beatles on the record player, fighting over who is going to be Paul and who is going to be John

In HS, at a party, listening to EAP. some guy was passed out on the couch. After the break in Trouble No More, he woke, shouted out "Goodbye Baby" along with Gregg, and passed right out again. I always get a chuckle when I hear it

number 1 is the 1st song my wife and I ever danced to at a fraternity party the night we met - Thunder Road. I still smile and get the chills when I hear it.
Years later, inthe 3rd row of Boston Garden, seeing Bruce and the E St Band, when they played it, we relived that moment. Patty and Miami Steve saw us and pointed us out after the song was over.

1977 - Jackson Browne - The Pretender. Her name was Glenda but she called herself Linda Paloma. That song really moved her and I was the beneficiary.

Any number of Beatles songs instantly conjure up memories of my early childhood. There are others that remind me of specific instances and events.

Chad and Jeremy's, "A Summer Song" - actually a love song, but the tune and some of the lyrics cause vivd memories of my summers when my family lived in Atlanta's West End area.

My parents both worked. During the summers the four of us kids (myself and my now deceased brothers and sisters, Butch, Wanda and Cathy) were left at home during the day. At about 12 years of age, Butch was the oldest. Wanda was about 10, me about 7 and Cathy about 5. This situation prompted several concerned neighbors (we considered them to be nosey) to contact DHR on several instances.

Butch learned that there was a free swim period for children over at the John A. White Pool (in what I think is now called Cascade Park or something) during the morning hours. We'd get on our bikes and ride about 8 miles each way for these free swims.

It got even more interesting. On the first visit, we learned that kids were supposed to be accompanied by an adult (parent or guardian). Following Butch's cue, we'd wait for a family group to enter and then just follow in closely like we were some of the family children.

The jukebox in the pool area would play all sorts of music from that period - Beatles, Paul Revere and the Raiders, the Supremes ... It always seemed like one of the last songs that would play before the free swim period was over was Chad an Jeremy's, "A Summer Song".

We'd be riding back home - our eyes still burning from the chlorine and feeling a bit sleepy. We'd pedal underneath canopies of summer trees - all "showing off their silver leaves".

I know it sounds corny, but a couple of years ago on a warm summer day I was driving down a tree-lined street when that tune came on the oldies station I was tuned into. I don't know what happened, but I found myself parked on the side of the road listening to it ... with tears running down my face.

so many of my memories from songs end up taking me back directly to a show..like 'Happy' with Keith Richards standing onstage singing his heart out; Rock 'n Roll Hoochie Coo & Johnny Winter (spotlights on him) comes to mind playing his heart out with his long white hair & pink skin in his prime; Iron Man conjures Ozzy standing centrestage, both arms in the air holding the peace sign & frills dropping from his coat...so cool sounds & sights never experienced before!
