I haven't followed boxing in years and I am not a UFC fan at all.

The marketing is working on me for this event though.

I know the conventional wisdom - "expect a spectacle, not a good bout"

No way a non boxer can possibly stand against Mayweather, right ?

This 'spectacle' appeals to some basic thoughts though, certainly McGregor is the underdog, no chance, David vs Goliath, all that.

Again, the hype is working on me. I want to see it.

Will I be disappointed if Mayweather knocks him out in 1 or 2 or 3 rounds, maybe. Seen Tyson do that multiple times, mostly in the 1st round.

What about if McGregor manages to hang in there for the long haul ?

What if McGregor manages to land one or two and sends Floyd back a step or two ?

$ 89.99 from Comcast.

What will you do ? Interested enough to pay the money ?

http://www.espn.com/boxing/story/_/id/19538871/ufc-conor-mcgregor-face-embarrassment-vs-floyd-mayweather-says-ricky-hatton

Ricky Hatton believes Conor McGregor and UFC face embarrassment if McGregor fails to 'lay a glove' on Floyd Mayweather just as he, Oscar De La Hoya and Canelo Alvarez failed to, if the proposed superfight goes ahead.

In 2007, Mayweather (49-0, 26 KOs) defeated Hatton (45-2, 32 KOs) by stoppage and also beat De La Hoya (39-6, 30 KOs) by split decision and Canelo Alvarez (49-1-1, 34 KOs) by majority decision. Hatton stated that none of the three managed to trouble Mayweather, and neither would McGregor.

"I couldn't hit him. Oscar [De La Hoya] couldn't hit him. Canelo [Alvarez] couldn't hit him. Conor's not going to hit him," Hatton told TMZ. "If he's the UFC's biggest name and he doesn't lay a glove on Floyd -- which no disrespect, I could actually see that happen -- I think there is only one organisation that is going to come off worse or one sport."

McGregor said he signed a "record-breaking deal" last month and that it was up to Mayweather to make the fight a reality. But while Hatton said he was a big fan of the Irish fighter and would love to see him defeat Mayweather, he believes not only will it not happen but it will be embarrassnig for both the UFC and McGregor.

"I am a boxer but I am fan of UFC. But if he is UFC's biggest name and what I think happens in the fight, happens in the fight, it could be a bit embarrassing and I wouldn't like to see that happen to Conor, because I love him to bits. I think he is good for sports, good for entertainment."

He added: "If the truth be known, I would like Conor to splatter him. My heart says it but my mind says no, he probably wouldn't [beat him]."

Heineken515, my history of being a fight fan, seems to closely follow Your. Back in the day, starting with Ali I guess, I was a big fan of boxing, not much lately and totally do not like UFC type fighting. However, I would not spend a single dime to support Mayweather, I realize my lack of support will not effect his immense wealth one iota, from all I have heard this guy is a horrible human being, he has been accused dozens of times of severely abusing many different women during his career and dozens of police calls I believe are on record. His status and wealth have always prevented his prosecution and kept things quiet for the most part. Just something to consider before supporating this guy in anyway.......Peace........joe

Dog gone it, tryed posting a few different links, but couldn't get them to work, a quick search reveals alot about this guy.

I am a big sports fan but will in no way shell at this kind of money for these 2 idiots. They will make a ton of money and both are amazing marketers. The fight will probably be as staged and the promotion. I will be fast asleep when this happens.

I used to really enjoy big time boxing and we used to order all the big pay-per-views. The stars from the 80s when I was growing up and the guys of the 90s and early 00s. It has been a long time since I bought a ppv event.

I hate Floyd Mayweather. I respect his skill and how good he is, just hate him. I've longed for somebody to knock his ass out...I'd have to see it on a replay if it happens tomorrow.

I'll be happy watching Rice against Stanford CFB at the same time.

I use to be a big boxing fan as well. I was in the seventh grade for the first Ali , Frazier fight. Followed through the Tyson era. Haven't watched much since. This fight has caught my attention though. I hope to watch with some friends that we will chip in to pay. Mayweather is a great boxer, but I can't stand him. McGregor , to me is like a cartoon character, but I like him, even though I don't watch much UFC. If McGregor can put up a good fight, or even beat Mayweather, it will be a sad day for boxing. I'll be rooting for McGregor, but won't bet on him.

Don't believe the hype. Mayweather in a couple of rounds with rematch for far fewer dollars within 10-12 months. This crap is about as real as enhancement drug testing in Russia or WWF "pro" wrestling. 😛

Too much money being bet for it to be staged. You can't get away with that anymore, but no matter what happens you won't be able to convince people who think it's staged otherwise. The promotion of the fight will cast enough doubt, but that's what these two do, they play characters to build interest.

Mayweather maybe by TKO in the middle rounds, but more than likely he wins a dominating decision as he always seems to do. I'd be stunned if McGregor gets more than a glancing blows in the whole fight. His boxing just can't be anywhere near that of a mid-level boxer, much less an undefeated legendary one.

Mayweather stacked the deck in his favor, no need to stage anything. Too bad Mayweather didn't agree to a hybrid rules fight. Then it would really be interesting. At least then he might be taken to the ground and beaten.

I doubt there would ever be a rematch as Floyd is winding down. However you will see a lot of MMA vs boxing matches pop up in the wake of this because it's going to make a ton of money and money will bread an over saturation in the market.

I miss the days of Sugar Ray Leonard, Marvin Hagler, Roberto Duran & Thomas Hearns.

& Aaron Pryor -- Alexis Arguello -- Matthew Saad Muhammad -- Yaqui Lopez -- Ray Mancini -- a lesser known but no less awesome of a boxer who was never in a dull fight, Cornelius Boza Edwards -- great Rahway Prison inmate James Scott, all his fights were televised.........

McGregor is a fit trained combat athlete who won't go away easily -- that said, Mayweather by decision IMO

It will be interesting. I follow MMA lightly, I do enjoy boxing very much.

Floyd is a great fighter, his record speaks for itself. He is defensive, does not
get hit, very well disciplined.

Consensus is FM to win hands down. I do agree, but there is always a chance for McGregor.
If Floyd plays it smart and fights his game and does not do anything out of his norm, he will win.
He has the advantage since it is his world(boxing). It will be interesting to see how he handles
a non boxer in the ring. Someone coming at you with a different, unrefined set of skills in the ring
could throw him off. If that happens and CM catches him off guard he will need to unload on him
hard and fast.

I am sure McGregor will come out in round 1 to try and "shock and awe" and try and finish
this thing in the beginning rounds so he does not have to go the distance. The longer he
stays in, Floyd will wear him down.

I do miss the years when boxing was more on the forefront 70's,80's, early to med to late 90's then it kinda of slowed up. Lots of great fighters during those years. I always remember watching Tyson come out of his corner when they bell rang.
He would come charging out and just be on top of you to dish out punishment. That guy was scary in his prime. Was he the best,I dont know, but he could put the fear of god into his foes.

Sonny Liston had that ability too -- IN-TIMIDATION -- in his prime, the ability to have fights won before the bell rang -- it was like that when Tyson fought Spinks -- one time Tyson fought Alex Stewart & the guy all but admitted at the press conf he was scared shitless -- so were many of Tyson's opponents -- he was a beast (in talent) -- both he & Sonny, bad hombres in their primes w/mad boxing skills

McG has a slight reach advantage on Floyd -- Maywthr may not be hard for McG to find -- 1st 2-3 rounds should tell the story -- as you said the longer it goes the more it favors Floyd

Mike Tyson all knockouts collection

It is amazing the number of fights he had on the way up in 1985 and 1986. Several times with two fights in the same month and once with three. Of course many were against tomato cans.

I remember watching the Buster Douglas fight live on HBO and just being stunned for a couple of days that anyone could drop Tyson. Then you find out that he was in Tokyo partying, they didn't even have the proper safety equipment in the corner for the fight because they figured they wouldn't need it.

I'd love to see a prop bet on how much of the combined $300m these two clowns will make off of this "fight" that they'll still have in 10 years.

I am a former HUGE boxing fan. I even dabbled in the sport in my (much) younger days. To me, this one has SPECTACLE written all over it. I haven't kept up with the hoopla, but I'm guessing that this is NOT a title fight.
The only thing that I can see in McGregor's favor is Mayweather's age. You get old quickly in boxing. Age has snuck up on (or jumped out and ambushed) many a former champion who seemed to be in their prime. If Mayweather has anything left he should make quick work of McGregor. If it were a MMA bout, I'd give McGregor the edge, but I don't see him beating Mayweather in a straight-up boxing match. I just hope nobody gets hurt.

Floyd is smart in the ring and fast, probably not as fast as last time I saw him as age slows everyone down, but he avoids contact very well.

Agreed that MCGregor will be very aggressive and that may be hard for Floyd to handle, but he can just clinch and let the ref separate. No telling how McGregor will handle that tactic, that may actually play to him if the ref lets them fight it out, a close quarter fight isn't want Floyd wants. I would figure that McGregor would probably tire out and play into Floyd's game. I'd be surprised if Floyd has enough power to KO him unless it is late and dude is just totally out of gas.

Closer it gets the more I want to get it, buddy coming over for the night football games, but probably still will pass unless it goes on sale or something 😛

I'm not much of a boxing fan and certainly not a knowledgeable one. But the thought of a UFC fighter taking on an undefeated champion boxer? I think it will be over very early, and certainly NOT in McGregor's favor.

McGregor lasted 10 rounds before losing by TKO. I find it incredible that a UFC fighter was able to put up such a fight against a storied champion boxer. McGregor has certainly legitimized himself.

The fight went about as I figured. It's a 40 year old Mayweather with 2 years off and training with the knowledge that it's highly unlikely he is going to get hit by a solid blow. McGregor just doesn't have the skill as a boxer to come at Mayweather with anything he can't defend outside of just a wildman barrage.

Mayweather's whole game has been to just fight defensively and beat you on points or just tire you out. He has made hundreds of millions by having some of the most boring fights because he's one of the best defensive boxers in history.

I thought it was worth the $100. Better and a more even fight than I expected. I'm not sure how they didn't have McGregor winning 4 rounds (3 worst case) just because Mayweather wasn't punching nearly as much early on. That said, Mayweather absolutely dominated the last two rounds, probably won 6, and clearly landed more power punches.

At first I thought they stopped it early. Then after the showed the replay of the final round and showed some of it in slow motion, I see why it was stopped.

My boys had 7 other high school classmates in the basement and I watched upstairs. They were entertained and I was too. MacGregor was better than I expected.

I agree with your comments - the result, the stoppage, the fact that McGregor fought well, and that this was an entertaining fight.
