This is really sad. Founding member of The Supremes. I'm not old enough to have seen them live but as someone from Detroit you grow up on all of that great Motown music. 😢

I began driving a car in 1961 and my dad bought me a 1950 Plymouth for 100.00 dollars in 1962 so I would quit begging for his car and through the 1960's The Supremes we're one of the groups that had hit and hit on top 40 radio. The Rolling Stones did too and what is incredible is they apparently are still active!

The Supremes have always been one of my all-time favorite female vocal groups. It would probably be a toss-up between them and 'Martha and the Vandellas' for my number one favorite if I had to choose just one.

R.I.P.

I had the opportunity to see Mary as a solo performer in an intimate outdoor setting several years ago.  That evening she proved she was much more than a background singer for a group's prime diva.  Motown never allowed her to step into the spotlight as Dianna Ross was determined to be the one with the sexy (and commercially successful) voice.  So glad that I got the chance to see her finally display her full talents.  After the show she graciously hung out to chat and sign memorabilia for anyone who so desired. And she didn't handle it like it was just as a formality.  She would examine individual items and comment as if she was examining old family photos.  Just very approachable.  So glad to have spent that evening with that person who filled the radio airwaves with such joy during my adolescence.  Rest in peace, Mary.
